Which is a better way to learn magic?

This one is actually kind of different. It isn't really about exposure, but rather the way people prefer to learn. DVDs and Downloads or Books. If it is about exposure, I'll be pretty mad, but right now, it's ok...

Book on the Theory of Artifice and Subterfuge?

Derren Brown has a few really good books on theory

    Deck ID

Ah ok. So then yeah, that's the way the numerical system is marked (the way I said above). Check one thing: Are both the sides short, or are the corners short? Line up one card behind the other , lined up at the bottom and the right, then take a picture and see.

Predicting the number of the card-Si Stevens

With Mnemonica, you know exactly what cards are at what number.

    Deck ID

To me, it looks like the dots inside the circle change size with each one. On the right side of the octopus ("above' the big curvy tentacle). One dot is always bigger than the others. The Queen has the First dot (top one) in the 1st column from the left, the 9 has the 2nd, the 6 has the 3rd...

    Combining Shorts

Hey guys. I had an idea recently, but am not sure if it would work. My idea essentially relies on having various types of short cards in a single deck, and using that to locate certain cards. Would it be possible to combine various types of short cards in a single deck? Is it possible to have a...

    Angle Z handling question.

Madison always says that the teleportation should be the climax of the trick. Also, a subtle "you can keep that corner" is probably great (unless you want to take it back). Alternatively, you can maybe try and work with a variation on the principle from Blake Vogt's REF4M, though I have not...

    Magic Lessons.

There are still people that will teach you regularly. You can find them at local magic rings.

    Performing Magic for Kids

Often times a card plot is so weird that adults can't understand it. Children loose interest very quick, unless it's a super visual trick that ends in a few seconds.

    Routine Opener, Impromptu or not??

I agree. Sponge balls are a great way to go. I prefer doing a ring routine to open and use patter to find justify a way to bring out a deck of cards later on in my next routine.

    Routine Opener, Impromptu or not??

Don't make it about the trick, make a story that engages the audience. The effect is kind of like a metaphor for the story and vice versa.

    Magic Lessons.

Also, magic lectures are essentially the same thing as a class for magicians, and those happen all the time, all over the place.

    Routine Opener, Impromptu or not??

Any trick can be powerful based on presentation Go through the Royal Road or Bobo and pick a few powerful tricks and pick one to start working with.

    Magic Lessons.

Actually, there are mentors and teachers all over the place. A lot of magicians get private lessons from others. It simply isn't advertised as much as a guitar lesson, because very few people would go. But if you go to a local magic ring, some one will probably offer to teach people. I know some...

    Routine Opener, Impromptu or not??

Essentially, any trick can be an opener. It's all how you present it. Pick a trick that you like to perform, and build a presentation to start your routine. Use that patter to go through the trick, and have it flow into the next one, and have that one flow into the next trick, and so on. That is...

    Practicing in public spaces

That's fine. I agree with that too. I just find it helpful to read through it a couple times prior to taking a deck, so I actually know what my hands should be doing. Public is just not a super controlled environment, and it'll be weird to practice. 1 thing you can do though is practice palms...

Is magic the only art form where insults are compliments?

When people see the Sistine Chapel they are always in wonderment. People probably do say something like "That fool" or "that's crazy" (which is an insult that we take as a compliment I'm realizing) or something.

Is magic the only art form where insults are compliments?

Comedy and Rap (especially freestyle) also have this. Juggling acts, as Christopher mentioned, and entertaining acts like that also get it, as well as feats of danger and strength, and even sports. I think pretty much anything that is amazing to see gets these reactions Even filmography gets it...

    Practicing in public spaces

Why not take the time to read a magic book and expand your knowledge, and then practice later in the day at home? You can download a book like the Royal Road onto your phone and read through a section and be ready to practice when you get home!

    I am very sad

This is pretty bad advice. If you actively attack the spectator @Alarte don't let it stop you. We ALL have bad performances every now and then. And yes, it sucks, but use it as a learning tool. Practice and perform with a chip on your shoulder, and use it to always try and get better. To me...
