The same goes if the spectator knows it's just sleight of hand. That is unless it's truly deceptive. Wouldn't that be the same (as Mike is suggesting) with camera editing? If it deceives.... Just think of how many times people ask if you can float like that guy on tv...

And the implication is that cheating is wrong? Correct? When we cheat the audience using an unseen gimmick that's okay, but when someone fools us (or others) with a camera trick or stooge, as magicians (myself included) our hair stands on end.

Good post. And what constitutes a camera trick? Splicing? What about turning the camera upside down? What about doing important things outside the camera frame? This was me playing with the angle of the camera, and gravity. The board is actually perpendicular to the floor, and there's a magnet...

Some great ideas here. You could try having three different cards selected and lost (controlled to the top). show a blank card, turn it over, and place it on your palm (actually switch it for the three selections, but pretending they were still a single card). Ask them to place their hand on top...

I agree about the ums and uhs. I heard the audience laughing a lot, and thought the clip was very good. I would add some clips of the audience laughing and having fun. That would be my only thought.

Heh, your local magic shop should be the best source for you. Go back there and they should be able to give you some tips, or at the very least guidance to some good material. (I've never used a flipper, so I'm of no help. I'm sure someone might have some resources)

Are you getting at what makes it artistic versus entertaining? I can see your point, and I would tend to agree. What kind of acts do you know that do a good job of pointing to a greater truth?
