I tried it in the garage once, with the door open, on a windy day. Same result. That is definitely necessary. However, you can cut down on any potential warping by applying the spray lightly and using multiple coats.

Check out Jean Hugard's Encyclopedia of Card Tricks book. It has a whole section on Svengali decks. It also covers, stripper decks, slick cards, double backers, key cards, short cards and a whole lot more. My tip for you is to try riffle shuffling the deck. ;)

Survey says.... #1 Answer. Although it is not an adhesive but a dull clear spray paint. Just a note, use in a well ventilated area away from open flames. Also apply in multiple very light coats. Too much at once will warp the deck.

If the effect is worth performing (for profit or otherwise) then it is worth buying. Even if you figured out the method by watching the preview, you didn't come up with the "concept" and it is the "concept" that makes you want to perform the effect.
