    Interesting Gig Coming Up

Thanks for all of the input fellas. I am very nervous about taking this on, but I think it will help me as a performer and make me grow professionally. I'm 90% sure I'm going to take the gig and I will make a review / reflection post. The gig is Sept. 9th so a bit down the road yet.

    Interesting Gig Coming Up

I figure everything will have to be in my hands or the spectators hands (the person who is sitting on the end of the row of seats. I don't know how large charter bus aisles are but perhaps I could take a small table and throw a small close up pad on it. I am not sure yet. This is definitely...

    Invisible Deck

Yes...I agree...do a few effects with a standard matching deck. Put it away, do a few other non card effects and then go back into your "same" pocket (this is important psychologically) and pull out the ID and finale with it.

    Interesting Gig Coming Up

Well, the way I am envisioning this going down is me performing for a few rows at a time, then moving back a few rows, changing sets, and alternating every few rows making my way back to the back of the bus. Then taking a 10 minute break or so, grabbing two new sets of effects and doing it...

    Vanish Advice

Easiest method: Devils Hank, rip up the rest of the card into pieces and have them (a spectator) drop the pieces into the hanky. BAM! Gone....ha ha. Or... All the pieces are dropped into the hanky, BUT one mistakenly falls to the floor and this is the corner you keep...hint hint.

    Interesting Gig Coming Up

So...we've all had interesting gigs, but I just got a phone call for one that might prove to be a new one on my list. A company would like me to perform strolling magic while on a charter bus for two hours while their employees and families are seated. It is a two hour ride to the amusement...

    Performing Sick Have You Ever?

Craig added some great pointers. The biggie is that it will only take 1 or 2 clients to spread that word that you are typically a "no-show" or frequent cancellation and you better believe your name is "mud" throughout the community. Word of mouth travels faster than you think. Some of you...

    Difference Between I.B.M. And S.A.M.

Ashley, I cannot tell you the difference between IBM and SAM but also know that there is an FCM (Fellowship of Christian Magicians). Now, to get into some local magic clubs they may or may not force you to join the "national" organization as well. We have a local magic club and only about half...

    Magic Advertised In Magic Magazine

Ashley, Magic props can be VERY pricey, especially when it comes to large illusions, custom effects that are hand made and the price is normally reflected in most magazines whether it is Magic or Genii. That being said, I have also learned in life that you normally get what you pay for. If...

    Performing Sick Have You Ever?

This is actually a good topic Ashley. They way I handle this is that in my contract that I have the client sign and mail back to me, it clearly states that if an incident like this (performer is too ill, birthday party child is ill, etc.) that I can reschedule with the client or try to find a...

    Error Uploading To The Wire.

Weird, for a lot of users it is the opposite...Firefox and Safari have some issues and then Chrome usually works.

Weak minded people. What to do?

Always, always, show the card to more than one person in the group, or even a nearby spectator that isn't in "their" group. Reason being...the person who is having the effect done to them may not be weak minded, but because they are in the "spotlight"...there many be a bit of nervousness which...

    Moving On

There are 2 outstanding magic shops in Myrtle Beach, but I don't know how close you are to Myrtle. As far as clubs, I would look of the nearest IBM ring or local magic club. Yes, you may have to drive 45 minutes to get to your meetings but I assure you it will be well worth it depending on how...

    A Members Challenge...

On a better note...I just landed 2 balloon sculpting gigs this weekend and a strolling magic one. All on Saturday. 10 to 12:00, 12:30 - 2:30, and 5:00-7:00 p.m. I am going to be one tired dude. I am taking my mini camcorder and might ask a few spectators if they won't mind filming some of my...

Saturday Night Contest - The Magic Olympics

Draven is correct that perhaps a judge should step in and clarify if it needs to be a performance from the start of the contest last night or if it could potentially have been filmed awhile back. My personal preference would be that it is starting from last night's announcement but I am not one...

Saturday Night Contest - The Magic Olympics

Hey fellas, call me crazy but I think your videos must be shot and uploaded today or tomorrow...not something from a week, month or year ago. Also...I'm guessing the videos will score higher if you are performing live with some spectators reactions. I could be wrong, but if I were entering the...
