    The side slip

    The side slip

Bingo, scarecrow. You are discovering what takes most people years to discover. Too many people are surprised that the clever, mind-blowing, revolutionary ideas from that latest release date back almost a hundred years in many cases. Too often these are the same people who have ignored classic...

    Sight:Digital - Dee Christopher

Well... Without giving anything away... Technically, yes. It's an old idea that's very cleverly applied, so yes, theoretically, you could, but be prepared to do a not insignificant bit of work to apply the idea.

New "Mandolin" deck for magicians and gaffs.

Not enough of a market, I think, to really make such a big project out of it.

Ignore Everybody and 39 other Keys to Creativity

Will definitely check it out, thanks for that :)

Heya, Misdirection how do you work?

Misdirection is often made easier the harder someone tries to catch you. If you have a deck in one hand, and someone expects you to control the card, you can produce an elephant with the other and they'll never notice. Be creative, use the narrow focus and be unexpected.

    Bad habits when you perform...?

Maybe it's the script? I know that sometimes I come up with scripts that read brilliantly, then I actually go to say it, and it just flails in mediocrity because it's just not something I say and sounds hollow... It's always hard getting used to saying precise things at precise times as well...

    Book Test

Ok, sure. Here are some ideas. As mentioned before, the Mother of All Book Tests (MOABT) by Ted Karmilovitch. For a walkaround booktest: Try Luna from Outlaw Effects. For an impromptu booktest: Try Alain Nu's Work Works II (But get Work Works I as well, although that's not impromptu, but still...

    Bad habits when you perform...?

Some common ones would be pacing around, fidgeting with the deck and blinking when you execute a sleight. Also, saying the obvious. Narrating what you're doing.

Has anyone seen this effect published?

Hi Ryan, Sounds like you're proud of this effect, so congrats on creating it :) As far as predecessors goes... I'm not sure this specific effect has been done (although my knowledge is paltry compared to some). What I would note though is that the plot, I'm fairly sure, has been done before...

    Real Magic For Them

There's a trick I love performing called the Modest Memory Routine. Most of the memory demonstration is done by the spec, who memorises (genuinely) a stack of cards with a lot of extra info as well. There's nothing like surprising a spectator with how good their memory really is.

    Getting a forced card.

If you only need to know the card (i.e. you can force any card), just glimpse the bottom card at the time.

    Who should we emulate, exactly?

A quick side note: I suspect that British people would be predispositioned to make fun of Americans more readily than they would, say, Derren. On this subject, it is interesting to note as well that Japan is a far more communal based country. As far as differences go though, the interesting...

New "Mandolin" deck for magicians and gaffs.

I'm not in the habit of marketing, but check out the Phoenix deck. it may or may not suit your fancy. It's relatively cheap (US $3/deck from memory), is loosely based off the Bike design, designed by magicians for magicians, and there's a marked version. Haven't actually tried them though so...

    Basic

The sleights are definitely getting better buddy. It definitely does need work, but that's alright, things always do, and that's not a bad thing. So, a couple of notes... a) When you angle jog a card, make sure you do it in one fluid motion. In other words, don't push it in, and leave the...
