    Is Card Magic Powerful?

Well, some others have basically said it: it's not the effect, or how visual it is, it's how you present it. That was anticlimactic -_-"

What do YOU feel when performing?

From a mentalist's point of view, I agree. As I alluded to earlier, there's a perception that effects which portray you as different or special compared to others must necessarily carry ego. This is not so. The fact is that people enjoy very much watching people with extraordinary skills. The...

Is it good for you or for them?

Why do you get the notion that effects you create or enjoy can't be the same as those your spectator's enjoy? Curious. Rmana is right though - it's the magician more than the effect.

    Psychological Forces

This may sound strange, but I completely disagree that an out is worse than failing completely. Some of my best performances have been ones where I utterly failed. And not just like, they named the Queen of Spades instead of the Jack of Spades for Invisible Deal Force, but like, I was going for...

    Psychological Forces

I apologise if I came off as harsh. Let me rephrase. Outs for any such effects, in general, including Derren's other forces and Dee's Anate, I believe, weaken the effect dramatically, for example, the use of an Invisible Deck, for the reasons described in my last post. Contrary to thought, I do...

    Is Card Magic Powerful?

From my experience, I disagree about the statement about visualness. I have to go now however so I will post back in about 8 hours about why.

    Sharing My Channel

Good to hear from you - though I don't flourish much anymore, Clueless I is amongst the only exceptions, something I have a tendency to fiddle with haha.

    Berglas Effect

The Berglas Effect is another name for the A.C.A.A.N or Any Card at Any Number plot. David Berglas lent his name to it due to his continuous performances of the effect by having a spectator freely name a card and a number, and then having them deal down to said number to find the said card, all...

    Psychological Forces

Brehaut, I don't mean to be disparaging or disrespectful when I say this, but I find that looking for outs is a general sign of someone who should be looking instead at learning another branch of magic. Let me clarify this. Outs are obviously a valuable tool used to bring an effect to a...

    Just Starting...

Trilogy and Dangerous in my opinion would fit into the "more difficult, not impossible but would take a lot longer to learn from" category I mentioned earlier. In other words, I know of people who started out with them, and did learn them, but they did so with great difficulty, on average...

    Just Starting...

There have been a couple of threads about this so do a search for more detailed information. But in general, the most recommended have been the two Xtreme Beginnerz DVDs. There are more difficult DVDs out there from which it is not impossible altogether to learn from - but by starting with the...

What do YOU feel when performing?

Actually, that's completely incorrect in my opinion. There seems to be this budding wave of collective moral outrage amongst magicians recently, in which the overarching trend is to advocate a most extreme form of selflessness - "I as the magician do not matter at all. My feelings don't...

    Bureau d'Échange

But most do. Tony Chang is an exceptional magician. Performing over YouTube. And you as a magician, are impressed. Can you see the problem with your reasoning? To impress without patter, you need one of two things: a) to be performing to magicians, such as yourself. Try getting booked by...

    Voting Now open

@ Ryan: Congratulations on getting a video of a live performance! First and foremost, a lot of brownie points for that, well done. Technically, no issues, although be careful during the pop-up move about the bent card in the middle. I'd drop that hand entirely to the side so that it's not...

    Bureau d'Échange

Ok. Question. If you were going to make a video of an ACR routine, but your double lift was utterly horrible and wouldn't fool a 200 year old blind lady, would you post it with the bad double lift? Then why did you make me sit through that without patter? I dislike the BFU book for this...

    Invisible Jumbo Deck

You can in fact buy an invisible jumbo deck premade. I've never tried the gimmick on plastic cards though. If you're worried only about the plastic though, buy a pack of cheap plastic cards (poker sized), and see if it works on them.

WARNING - A New Magic Trick from KostyaMagic

Cause if someone famous says so, it must be good! But seriously, I do actually agree with you. Sorry about that, I couldn't resist saying it, but I agree. Magicians are shocking at seeing through the eyes of laymen. Being a mentalist, I can definitely say that I would never perform this, but it...
