    Erdnase Color Change

It was indeed very well performed. It was done as described by Erdnase, many people add things to it, try spicing it up, doing it slowly .. etc, playing with it, as Shodan said. But since you like it this way, its your choice. It was done very well. Cheers,

    Trick Improvisations

Learn the trick, read the presentation, if you like it, use it, modify it anyway you want, might be minor or major modification. Just do whatever you like, don't feel restricted to anything. Dai Vernon:"Be natural, and use your head".

Cards as Weapons :: Ricky Jay

For how much did you get the book for? Last time I checked it was 500$ .. Card throwing is cool, but for 500$? Nah ..

    What is a purist?

Adjones, re-read my post, I clearly stated that this is THE WRONG LOGIC. Do read the complete post before posting about it! Cheers,

    What is a purist?

I agree with this, though the last thing you said in your above post ( the magic lecturer thingy ) left me intrigued. :) ~ Feras

    What is a purist?

A purist is someone who doesn't use gaffs or setups that cannot be made by sleight of hand ( culling four aces to top, a purist would do that, you get the idea ). There are effect that doesn't require sleight of hand though are done with no setups or gaffs, this is particularly true for card...

    What is a purist?

Hope the reasons I gave you fixes your views. The ones you talked to, see the attitude, thats how you know if you're talking to someone with good knowledge in magical arts or not. Dave Williamson, although I mentioned that he works with shuffled decks, he also uses a spoon bending routine...

    What is a purist?

You got things the wrong way. I think the way you see it, a purist is someone who doesn't use gimmicks because they take pride on sleight of hand, saying that anything else is "false reactions". This is often NOT the case. Brad put it a neat way as he knew what he's saying and had alot of...

    What is a purist?

I find it ironic that your avatar is a playing card ... And you carry distortion and 5 speed, maybe you're not a purist after all.... ( according to your definition of purist ) A purist in the trade means someone who doesn't use any setup, the cards are shuffled, coins are normal, no gimmicks...

    Celebrities moonlighting as magicians

Hugh Laurie (Dr.House) and Stephen Fry (The Quiz in UK I think is the name ). Both are legenday actors, and they did this trick even better than magicians in my opinion. Alot of lessons can be learned here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ph0xUQCPuOc

The solution to a problem solved in a very weird way...

Wow! I'll start busking this summer, this will make me extremely happy!! I think many of you didn't have the problem of wanting to do alot of good magic, but lack of pocket space kept you from that.

    Performing...

There are many pros who earn a living with decks of cards alone. That being said, I was working on a 45 min.s close up act with cards only, I asked for advice from someone who firmly believes card magic can be entertaining on its own. Anwser: Get more experience performing none-card magic...

    What is a purist?

Ed Marlo used gimmicked cards (e.g double facers and backers, roughing fluid ) AND gadgets (e.g Marlo's Lap Index, Marlo's Shelf ) AND setup decks ( a Marlo version of spectator cutting and turning over the aces, 2 or 3 methods done with a full deck stack ) According my knowledge, Ed Marlo...

    Flash Pass?

Search over MVD, you'll see it done badly by a member there ( he "flashes" the move :P ). Can't say if its has merits to be added as a version of the pass, but since I don't know the excat handling I can't comment on this issue.

    Jay Sankey's "Inseparable"

Keep that attitude, way to go buddy. :) I also agree with you and many others, Jay comes with off beat ideas that are no way magician foolers. For laymen, many of them are very good workers. This one looks average, but you'll never know, laymen are surprised by such effects, and it sure...

    Erdnase break

Card College 3 has a technique to get the Erdnase break from a pinkey break, which is well known though he does mention some finer points on the technqiue and the break itself. The book recieves my highest recommendation anyway, Diagnal palm shift, side steals, riffle shuffle work, passes ( :P...

    Multiple push-off double lift...

I believe he was talking about doing it in a context of a double turnover, rather than a way to get a break. Card College vol.1 has the basic technique, vol.2 has a very good technique to make it a convincing double turnover. Look into push off seconds sources for more methods. Cheers,
