That depends on how skilled you are at counting cards (including your betting strategies), and how often the dealer shuffles the cards, among other things. The short answer is, for most people, no, counting cards doesn't markedly improve your performance in blackjack.

Honestly, I'd suggest canceling (unless your idea of "soon" is a few months from now). You need time to come up with and practice a routine (even if you know the tricks/effects). If you don't take the time, it will likely just looks rushed and, well, just plain bad. Again, I really cannot...
