    Gimmicks are WRONG?

That all depends on the performance doesn't it? If the act is entertaining, and the audience enjoys themselves then no. It's not over use. In fact it's successful. If there is little to no entertainment value and the audience is bored or not having a good time then the act is a failure. The...

    Gimmicks are WRONG?

I guess since I do mostly sideshow, and I can tell you that all my props and stunts are REAL that makes you (by virtue of your own logic, and by comparison) a complete fake. Get off your f-ing high horse you elitist jerk. How dare you step into a forum, with only 19 posts to your account, no...

    Gimmicks are WRONG?

Gimmicks, gaffs, or impromptu, it doesn't matter. What matters is your performance, character, and entertainment value. The trick is just a tool, what you're giving your audience is an experience. To perform under any other way is to not maximize on your performance.

    Simplicity

Well yes. Simple, strait forward, and unbelievable magic usually slays. Give me a riffle force over any of Dan or Dave's knuckle busting moves anyday.

    Beginner DVD

For a beginner? I don't think so. That's just going to confuse the crap out of him. I second the Royal Road suggestion. But to answer the OP's direct question I'd purchase either Genesis, Foundations, or Symphony. Those should get you going for a bit.

    "Mystery Mark" EXPOSED!

I kidnapped Bob from a Taco Bell close to San Diego. I caught him trying to make a run for the border and have had him ever since. Bob is a bit surly at times. I don't think he likes the idea of being subject to doing magic for me, but I just remind him it's either that or doing my laundry...

    Who are you?

And this here Silverfang is what will separate the men from the boys, or should I say the hobbyists who will entertain for friends and the professionals who will entertain for the world.

    Who are you?

This is a good thread, and one that should be explored by everyone with a serious intent to perform magic. I find it a bit of a zen question myself because to answer this is to reach deep within you and pull out something of your own essence. Since a lot of you have replied "I'm just myself"...

To anyone who is interested: I have recently come into possession of a beautiful full body couch levitation. To clarify: The girl lays on the couch and levitates off of it. The couch itself doesn't levitate. (Couch, rigging, counter balances, ring, sheet, and all. Girl not included.)...
