No ememy here. I'm in full agreement with you.

    Magic Isn't Real

Sorry, I for one am happy to see this. I think magic is magic BECAUSE we know that it can't be done. My own son is eleven and when I do tricks for him he knows they are illusions, but still, the wonderment doesn't leave him. Personally, I think that's the key: Teach them to know that...

    Anyone else NOT impressed?

Uhm strange? ..... Not really, I've seen stranger things on the internet. Disturbing..... YES. Seriously, it sounds to me that the OP isn't so much "unimpressed" as he is bored of magic right now. Maybe it's time to take a break from it and come back later?

"This is a trick" vs "I have powers"

I think that's the point. This whole thing about "lieing" to an audience is true. That's 99% of what we do. We trick, fool, decieve, lie, cheat, distract and in some cases, steal to perform the effect we want to produce. But, in all of that, I think we have to be honest with our lies...

"This is a trick" vs "I have powers"

Please, please, please play devil's advocate. Great debates and discussions come from that. :-) IMHO, once you say you have magic powers, that takes the magic away from it. If I can read minds, let's say, (I can't). And I get famous for it, it will get boring. Then ANY trick I do, people...

"This is a trick" vs "I have powers"

I agree with you both completely. :-) There's no need to say anything, actually. Especially in the case of causally doing a trick (or illusion or whatever you want to call it. :-) ). And on stage, it's very powerful to let the audience make their own descion. I'm not like that (I got...

"This is a trick" vs "I have powers"

Okay, I'm opening up a can of worms here, but if we are polite, we can get a real good discussion going. And that's what I'm shooting for with this topic. As you may know, I do hypnosis mostly and I'm just starting to incorporate magic into it. I was inspired by Derren Brown and his style...

Would you strip for a valuable magic item?

Technically, I've already been nude (completely) for magic stuff: gigs, actually. I mainly do hypnosis shows (now with a "a touch of magic") for adult parties. So it's no biggie to me if someone will give me stuff if I get nude. Hey, if they want to look, it's their eyes, not mine... :-)

I Have A Scary Story For You...

This philosphy is very good, but first in order to make ghosts an "improbablity" you have to prove that they are not an "impossiblity". In other words, one has to prove ghosts exists in order for it to be a very imporabable answer. So far, there is no scientific or concrete proof of ghosts...

I Have A Scary Story For You...

(Okay, I'm also a huge skeptic). The point is, that even though it can't be explained does not necessarily mean it's "supernatural". I could be many different mundane things and you could never know what it is. Besides, if it was ghosts, why the hell would they play with the lights...

    Mentalism

I'm with Dex. I did hypnotism first (for almost 20 years) and I'm just starting in the "Mentalism" side of it, inspired by Derren Brown. It works exteremely will for me.

Oops. You're absolutely right. Maybe that's why I thought of clubs first then switched to spades. Thinking too much. :-)

    Psychological Science Experiment

Three immediently popped into my mind. Then I thought clubs and suddenly switched because I thought "Penn & Teller use the three of spades all the time, so I'll go with them", by the time I read the line

Reputation - what started it all?

I started by doing hypnosis. I got my reputation by doing private parties. I tend to do more adult parties than anything else, so was known as the "adult hypnotist". But lately I've been getting into doing more "Derren Brown" type of magic using cards and suggestion tricks with my...

Hi Theophilus Bernhard Weston-Smythe II. I love your name. Much better than mine. My name sounds like I got the answer wrong on "The Price is Right". Listen: "frAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAnk" :-) Honestly, I may have missed that point in magicmagicmagic's posts, but he came out with...

    Mentalists Here

Believe it or not, the best book I've read on suggestion is Derren Brown's "Tricks of the Mind". He goes into an explaination of hypnosis and suggestion without all the "esp, pseudo-science" nonsense.

Sorry, magicmagicmagic. You brought this on yourself. Now, I know you are "i am a no body, a hobbyist," but you posted not only your opinion, but you set yourself up as "moral crusader" with that battle cry of "Think of the children!" I've stated this before: I am a 44 year old male...

The Haunted Swing -- Just in time for Halloween!

My theory on how it's done is much simpler than anything. The swings are attached to hanging rods. My guess is that one of the rods has some kind of battery-powered motor in it to turn the rod, you turn the rod up to speed, and it pushes the swing connected to it. I'm no engineer, so I...

Appreciate that. :-) The only thing I want to clarify was that I didn't mean to insult you personally. I'm sorry if I came across like that. My statement about "We must protect the children" is simply an opinion, and a general one. I do know that since it's a general opinion, I will...
