Help with Sands of the Desert

I am working on developing a routine using the Sands of the Desert effect. For those of you who don't know what it is, you pour three diffrent coloured sand into a bowl of water, and then produce from the bowl the spectators desired colour completely dry. You can repeat this effect again for...

Magic Shows on TV: Your Picks

One of the best things I remember about television programing growing up in the 80's and 90's was the annual magic TV specials that we'd get from Lance Burton, Copperfield, and others. I believe there was even a serriel called Champions of Magic or something like that as well that showcased the...

    An Essay on Gospel Magic

(Continued from Above) 2. Apples & Oranges Gospel Magic Trick Guest Author - Dennis Regling Here is a great "gospel magic" lesson. It also is just a good trick for the non-Christian audience. 2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are...

    An Essay on Gospel Magic

(Continued from Above) Of course modern Gospel Magic doesn’t come within spitting distance of any of the above described “sins”. Gospel magic uses illusions adapted to a religious meaning to teach and inspire the word of God to people. Many classic magical illusions can be adapted to...

    Performance For Church

Don't try and pull a moral high road with me, not after attempting such an insult. You can attack my character and beliefs all you want in private messages. Take this vendetta off this thread and leave the original integrity intact. We're discussing the performance of magic for a...

    Your opinion on private lessons?

I'm sorry I got to this thread so late, I can already tell that most of what I've got to say is going to be a re-hash of what some of our other forum friends have said but here goes: 1. Make sure you, yourself, are ready to be giving lessons and teaching. I'd make sure you know the...

    Performance For Church

I take the entire cult with a truck load of salt, and I'm always happy to make a friend out of one. I'm just harsh on the hypocrites, biggots, and sexists. Don't get me wrong, I've said it before and I'll say it again, It's not God I have issues with. It's his fan club I don't like.

How do we all get time to work on the magic we have?

"You will always find the time for the things that matter most to you" - My dad. I think that pretty much sums it up. If your magic is that important, you'll make the time.

    Geek and Bizzare Magic

I disagree. I can't see this effect working as well when performed as just a "trick". It really takes the punch out of what you are doing if the audience can assume there is a cheap, easy, "feel good" way out.

    Performance For Church

Trust me nothing can be -too- cheesy or campy for christian audiences. They eat up cheese like it was going out of style.

    Geek and Bizzare Magic

Just don't do the glass eating... That really isn't an effect you should learn from a DVD. It's stupid dangerous and should be taught by a live (quallified) instructor. Frankly, the only person I'd feel safe learning this from would be Todd Robbins. But that's just me.

New 1-on-1 :: The Gypsy Thread - Dan Sperry : Released

I consider this effect to be up there with the rest of the "must learn for sake of education at the very least" effects such as Cups and Balls, and Linking Rings. It's so simple, and direct that it hits hard. It's also fairly cheap to do, and travels small but plays big. In short: Do it!
