    1 or 2

It's important for us as a community to continue to encourage people, point them in the right direction, and like the old adage: 'teach them to fish'. The forum search feature is like buying someone a library card. And although it can be frustrating to see people not using it, it is not an...

Don't be Afraid to Do Something for Free

Working professionals can absolutely freely give their time and skills. It will in no way hinder your reputation. That fundraiser will continue to ask you for your services (and why shouldn't they?). However, it is not advertised to your paying clients that you are doing free charity work. And...

Tell me about your first time...

Yes, a clear written agreement or contract is a must. I don't use a contract because I feel I'm being pretentious (just my own insecurity I imagine), however I send a formal agreement to them to look over and then verify that I got the details correct. Every change gets edited, resent and...

Tell me about your first time...

I get nerves before I get up, but once I'm on, I'm good. It helps me to breathe deeply before I go on, then start with something that I am extremely comfortable with. For close up, I do one of the same few effects that I know best. For stage I start with a quick bit that get's a laugh and I...

    Thoughts on Strolling/Restaurant work.

I have found the ideal length of time to aim for is 5-7 minutes at a table. When I am asked for pricing for a walk around gig, I base my time on 7 minutes per table (which includes transition time). I found this ideal at the restaurant too.

    Birthday Money

I would recommend On the Spot by Gregory Wilson. Strong working material using a variety of things. So great.

    Thoughts on Strolling/Restaurant work.

Here is a nice thread to consider as well. http://forums.theory11.com/showthread.php?29190-How-many-tricks-should-you-learn&highlight=tricks Too bad the Penguin Forums are gone. So much wisdom on this topic was lost.

    Bridge Extended - Contributors wanted

Can you expand a bit on what this is and why it is 'extended'? Is it a magic book with various contributors? What is the effect? More info would be helpful. The reviews are not really helpful in explaining what I get, and I'm past the stage of buying the latest effect. If I'm going to spend...

    Lets Talk...

Hey a.Luu, First thing, you have a wealth of knowledge with the Calgary group of magicians. Brent at the Vanishing Rabbit will have lots to share on this topic. Are you connected there? Second, the thing with the successful is that they associate with like kind. You must decide where the money...

How to Win Friends and Influence People

Heh, that's funny to see this. I just started this book. I've heard so many parts of it, but never read it myself until now. Fantastic material.

Saturday Night Roundtable - Jason England

Can you talk about the connection/difference between magic and a display of sleight of hand. Is it a good idea to mix those, does one taint the other? For example, does showing your skill with cards diminish the magical effect of a triumph routine, making it skill rather than magical? Or vice...

    Some thought on my Routine?

I look forward to it. I'm sure there are a few routines based on this idea, but I like it.

    Some thought on my Routine?

It started off really well. Some nice moves in there. I enjoyed everything up to the pocket reveal. After that it just got confusing. Your patter needs to lead me through each step and involve me. Make me interested in each step (- why would someone care about watching this again and again?)...
