March 08 :: Custom Playing Cards

I own many custom decks but when I work I use red or blue bicycles and you know I don't think it really matters. I still get asked if I'm using a trick deck sometimes. I try to use regular decks just for that very reason (at least to start), so that the spectator can freely view the cards and...

Royal Road to Card Magic: Book or DVD?

Actually R. Paul Wilson's DVD set Royal Road To Card Magic is meant to be used in concert with the book, not as a stand alone. You could likely use the DVD set without the book but that's not the way he designed it and he tells you that right on the first DVD.

    Totally Out of Control

I've been looking for this all over the net and $35 postage paid is the best deal I've seen (from Genii). Other places may equal it eventually but I highly doubt you're gonna see a better deal for it.

    Dori as T11 Artist?

I'd say yes just because there are a couple of stick in the muds who take things too seriously. When I was in the Navy we had a cat aboard the sub I was attached to named Alfredo Garbonzo,we made him a crew member and someone even made him a set of silver dolphins and he became (unofficially)...

    Review: Wynns don't win

I'm not sure if I'm the one to explain this but it is my understanding that when they cut new cards, no matter how sharp the cutting machine, every card has an "edge" that is created by the cutting process. Working the cards for a while knocks off or levels that "edge" or gives it a smoothness...

    False Shuffles w/ Luke Jermay

This gave me an idea. I went to Penguin and opened my Penguin files. There was no download option, HOWEVER, when you click on it to view it it offers it in Windows Media or Quicktime (so your idea about the format was way off base and I don't use a Mac ((though I often wish I did)) you can open...

    False Shuffles w/ Luke Jermay

My experience with Penguin in the past is that what they call a "download" isn't really a download at all. They have an area where you go and watch it on their website, no copy for you on your drive. I don't know about you but if I pay for a download I want a download. If their board ever folds...

Chicago Magic You don't have to go all the way to Detroit for great magic shops. We have 2 right here in Chicago. If you don't mind coming into the city there's Magic, Inc. on north Lincoln, the wbsite is: www.magicinc.net. It was originally owned by the late great Jay Marshal and had gone down...

    Argument with mi madre

Uh, just as a point of clarification, I'm not saying to divulge secrets to appease anyone. Just don't be rude because they are.

    Argument with mi madre

Sometimes the best way to handle angry people is to just give them your undivided attention and let them get it out of their system. Don't respond in kind (that is with anger) just patiently listen. If they ask you a question just do your best to keep your head and respond calmly and...

S.W. Erdnase's "Expert at the Card Table"

There is a set of 7 dvd's covering Erdnase's but I can't attest as to how well they are made, I'm only posting this as a point of interest on the topic. As most have already pointed out Expert At The Card Table is and has been considered the "bible" of cardmen for many many years. You can check...
