past midnoght by benjamin earl is a 3 disc dvd set that has commercial routines disc 1 / gambling disc 2 / psychological disc 3

I am not big into card cheating and whatever because I think it is wrong but still I like the idea behind palming things. I always use the gamblers cop from Dangerous if I need to palm something. (WARNING: Do NOT use in Casino...)

Well for this area of card work, DVDs aren't your best resource but here are a few notable DVDs:

  • Gambling Protection Series (Steve Forte)
  • On Card Cheating (Darwin Ortiz)
  • Fast Company (Damian Nieman)

I think Richard Turner's The Cheat DVD gives you the most "bang-per-buck" in terms of sheer quantity of moves. However, because it's more of an expose than a teaching resource, he doesn't give the names of the moves, and doesn't go into technique in too much detail. I don't think there is currently one all-encompassing DVD source for learning gambling techniques.

My recommendations would be:

* Allan Ackerman's Advanced Card Control Volumes 2 & 5 (False Deals & Shuffle Work)
* Tony Giorgio's The Ultimate Work (mucking)
* Damian Nieman's Fast Company (a good variety of techniques)

Also look into the work of Darwin Ortiz and Martin Nash for routined applications for gambling moves.

However, I think that a lot of the good stuff is still only in books. Definitely get Expert at the Card Table, Expert Card Technique and Marlo's Seconds, Centers and Bottoms for a start off.

Not that I employ the techniques in actual game (because I actually find card games quite boring), I have learned a multitude of 'gambling techniques', as a means to improve my magic.

I regularly use a palm, peek and crimp commonly attributed to the worlds of gambling, and I use many other sleights that have either been developed into gambling moves, or developed from a gambling move, such as a multitude of shifts, the hop move, palming techniques, culling, false shuffles/deals, peeks, switches, and on and on.

The 'ga,bling move' I use most frequently... probably a very nice switching technique I learned a while ago.

Like The Cheat, the Gambling Protection Series is excellent for seeing the moves as they should look, performed by a master technician, but it doesn't go into detail on the techniques. This is because it's more to teach you to spot the moves when they're being used on you, rather than teaching you to perform them yourself. For example, I don't really think anyone could learn a centre deal properly from either of those sources.

I used weapons of a cardshark too, but I never found too much practicality for gambler's techniques to be honest.
