I found a website for free business cards and was going to have some made. I have a design idea in mind and wanted to know what you guys thought.

The idea is to have the card set up landscape style. To the very right side would be a pic of me in my hat, suit jacket, jeans and a pack of playing cards in hand (either flourishing, springing or just holding the cards) If I am going to just be holding them, I would be looking up, smiling. If I am going to be springing or flourishing in the pic, I will be looking at the cards with my hat somewhat shielding my face (kinda mysterious?). The whole background of the card would be black and in bold, white lettering, to the left of my picture will say my name, "That's REAL Magic!" and my phone number and email. What do you guys think of that?

There is a little story behind the whole "That's REAL Magic!" Friday night me, Anthony, and Cody went out to perform some street magic. We were standing in the median of the road, waiting to cross the street, and there were some random people waving at us in an SUV sitting at the light. Cody whips out his deck (hahaha joke was intentional) and held up a card and did a snap change. Their windows were up and you could hear them freak. The driver rolls down the window and asks if we perform for tips. We all said of course! They said cool! Meet us at Berryhill (that is a restaurant across the street from where we were). We got there and they bought all 3 of us drinks and offered to buy us dinner. Long story short, towards the end, I asked one of the guys what he was having to drink. He said coke. I said cool, now I want you to notice my shirt...it is covered in lighting bolts right? He said yes. I said well, you don't ever see lightning very long, right? It flashes and then it is gone! I said now visualize the coke logo...you see the lighting....and then I performed dresscode to change it to a coke shirt. The girl next to him literally jumped out of her chair and at some point said "That's REAL magic."

Hands down the best thing I've ever heard from a spectator!

Anyhow, I hope you liked the short story BUT, I'd love to know your thoughts on my business card idea.

Thanks,
Rob

what site are you getting these "free" cards from. because some times you can only get one color, or black and white only.
also if you are getting a picture, you better get a really good one. also i feel its safer not to get a picture on the card (of yourself) just in case you change your image.
make sure you have room for all your contact info.

The story is awesome! I can't wait to buy dresscode myself!

As for the business cards...

You may not want to go for black. There are a few problems with it:

- The ink might wear out or if it is bent you'll see white marks on it.
- It looks a bit video game-y? I personally find that black sites, or business cards look a bit too video gameish.

I also don't know if you would want to cover your face. I think that when you show-off your face the person will remember you better.

I hope some of the other guys 'n gals will tune in for this one!

I'm going to get a set of cards with a premade layout. It has a picture of the torso area of a man in a suit jacket (on the right side of the card) with all the info on the left. I think this is cool because when I perform, I always wear my suit jacket so the pic kind of fits me. Also the card isn't "rabbit in a hat" and SHOUTING magician lol. I have a question, though.

My name is in the top left corner. My info is at the bottom left corner. Just above my info, it says "That's REAL Magic!" Should I put the word "Magician" underneath my name in smaller text? Or is it unnecessary considering the phrase?

also, should I put the address to my facebook page on my card?

I think less is more for business cards but it's a trial an error thing. Your idea of a picture of you to the right and your details to the left sounds good, as long as you can keep it clean and professional.

This is the sort of thing I like, http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c78/YPAWZ/bcard.png

It leaves a lot to the imagination and because it doesn't give much away they will at least look at my site if they're even a little bit interested.
If you don't have a website with your facebook on then I would say definitely add it to your card if you can without making it look cluttered.
