It always amuses/amazes me, craig, that people who should always realize there is more behind the curtain than can be seen, still fall prey to the belief that all it takes is a good idea, some talent, and hard work to be a star.

Some here will accuse us of being old and bitter. Sometimes the stardust in ones eyes makes it hard to look at the truth.

Hey, I was one of those kids.. kind of. I just knew that a grand illusion show would shoot me to stardom... well, I was a star on stage and doomed when not... so maybe I used the wrong affirmation?:D

I learned the hard way about the politics and good ole boy ball games. Especially when I'd see technically superior acts get passed over by 'the judges' at magic convention/competitions, in exchange for the social/political favored act... everything from those who brought 50 screaming girls with them to rally for them from the audience, to the guys with the slick & nifty press kits. It's not always so, but much of the time it tends to be.
