Hello everyone,
I, like many others, am interested in custom cards and their designs. A couple weeks ago, I thought to myself, why shouldn't I try and design my own custom deck? Even if the deck never went to production, I think it would be a fun project to do.
Now, my parents are both conservators, and have done a lot of work in Turkey and Greece on archeological sites...in their time there, they've picked up a number of ceramic Turkish plates, many of which have incredible patterns, colors, and in general look pretty cool.
While these could simply be a form of inspiration, I've found a few that I think could, with some modification and additions of course, for the basis of a card back design. What I'm asking to the theory11 community is, how would I go about "digitizing" the image of the plate? I could take a picture and upload it to the computer, but that wouldn't let me tweak color, design, size, shape, etc. I could enlarge or shrink a simple .jpg, but I'd like to be able to modify the photo more than that. Microsoft Paint sure isn't strong enough to change an image well-- I don't think it's fill feature is good enough for what I'm thinking about.
I'm not very computer savvy, so I don't even know if "digitize" is the correct word, but does anyone here know of a program or a way to do what I've described? Just FYI, I'm on a Macintosh, so please don't suggest Windows programs
Lastly, I haven't taken a picture of said plate(s) yet. If for some reason someone would like to see one, I'll try to get around to that, and PM you.
Thanks so much!

PS: These plate designs are NOT simple enough to be freehand drawn. I considered it, but I'm reallly not very much of an artist anyways, haha.
