How many decks do you have?

wait, what? There's such things as "professional" cardists?

I think the point visualartist is trying to make is that it's BS that certain moves such as fans and faros can only be done with certain decks, which it is. You shouldn't need a "better" deck to make your flourishing/magic better. That's bs.
Not referring to deck condition by the way.

I knew youd at least get it.

Of course some cards are a little bit different. But I can do the same crap with a ghost deck that I can do with a bicycle deck. And just as well.

I like collecting decks, and I am definitely not against spending a lot of money on them. It won't make you a better magician, but they are still nice to have. :D

Variety is a good thing in magic; I have... 100 decks? Some are very old (inherited) but most of them are bicycles... Haha.

I DO have an unopened deck of brown Wynns though, signed by Andrei Jikh and Jonathan Bayme. :D

You say that because you want me to say that you are right and im wrong.

No. Just tried to put an end to your comment that every deck has the same stock and that they are all the same.

I re-read your post and i kinda understand it a bit more... you were trying to say that some say the cards make them better and I agree with you they don't. Like you said you can suck with a poor deck as much as you can suck with a good deck. I was just trying make a point that all cards are not the same like their stock. Sorry I mis-understood your post.

I still have about 350 (4 book shelves are used to store these) decks including 4 bricks of Jerry's Nuggets , few bricks of Golden Nuggets , few bricks of Bee Watermelons , few bricks of both old and new smooth finish Aladdins each , 6 Absoluts , 2 Bricks of each S&M editions , a brick of Oak Stingers Casino Deck , few Bricks of Red/Blue/Brown Wynns each after selling a quarter of my collection due to financial problems.

A book shelf! What a great idea. I can see how that would be convenient. Just a question: what if you had to get to a certain type of deck that is behind other decks, isn't that a hassle?

And...uhmm...you have a lot of decks, are you sure your financial problems aren't because you bought too many decks? lol!

Back in Time
Probably around 20 or so in a box that I have used and reused over the years and just put them in the closet and take them out when I need to.

Considering a brick of genuine JNs goes for like 4 grand, it seems like your money problems could be easily solved, Bill.

I'm a collector (read: horder) by nature. I have to restrain myself from gathering useless junk, because I am literally compulsively driven to do so. Because of that, I purposely ignore the existance of most cards, because if I thought about it I'd end up going broke buying them all. As it stands, I think I have about 40 decks. 16 of those are what I consider my 'collection' (rare-ish, signed, or limited edition decks) and the rest I'm working on using up before I switch over to red backed bikes completely.

I think magicians are, as a generalization, inclined to collecting/hoarding things. Hoarding is an obsessive/compulsive behavior, and so is magic. It takes an obsessive demeanour to really stick with practicing the same thing thousands of times. Therefore it's just a short hop from obsessing about performing magic, and obsessing about collecting cards.

As a very smart friend of mine observed - cards are the toilet paper of magic. Everybody uses it. And once used, it must be replaced.

Ellusionist's genuis was in convincing people to spend $9 on the equivalent of a roll of toilet paper.

Off to buy a gross of bikes from sam's club. Hope that'll be enough to get me through the summer!

I've got tons laying around, I don't have the time to search around to count. Atleast 100-200 packed away in a few shoe-boxes (before I moved), tons in my school locker, backpack, and bedroom.

I can burn through a pack of cards within 3-4 days up to a month or two. Regular bicycles, 3 days-2 weeks depending on tricks. Theory11 decks and Tally-ho's, up to a month, depending on how much i practice and perform with them.

Are you sure those 4 bricks of Jerry's Nuggets are real? I heard there were some people on eBay selling fake JN's and a lot of po'd peeps..

If they are, you should use a few. keep 5-6 aside to use. The ultimate performance deck :D

And if you had a financial problem, those decks are quite a lot of money each..

Err, this is probably on the wrong thread, but I'm about to buy 9 decks of the "Bicycle Centurions". Does anybody know if those have the same stock/finish as reg bikes? I'mlooking for a good-looking deck of cards that has a better finish/stock than bikes and tally-ho's at the moment, so if it's the same, I really don't want to shell out 40 bucks for cards that are the same..

Do those come all in one back color? And also, how much is it? I'd like a place to buy bikes in bulk other than the bricks from Costco, because I only like to use red backs.

their practically the same. there might be some slight differences you'll notice at first because their new. but their the same.

go for some classy cards. not 'cool' cards. check out Praetoritevong's signature..(it shouldnt be hard to find) the one about what does your deck say about you.. and that will help you make a decision.

if you want a new stock finish fancy feel. go for some Anglo's rug-backs or poker-backs. Anglo specifically makes cards for magicians. so they should be good. they look good. the stingers or the erdnase edition feel like a club special but look cooler. those are my opinions.

i base the majority of my card opinions on the reviews of Eostresh. the reviews are in the review section. if i don't have a first hand experience. i go with his thoughts.

I wholeheartedly agree. As far as I'm concerned, cards are a disposable, like flash paper or balloons. Very often, i will spend a whole night out performing and the deck will be unusable by the end, so i just chuck it away and crack open a new one. Plus, i like to do things with signed cards and tearing etc, so there is no way I'm spending £6 on a deck just to destroy it in one sitting!

Brick of Bikes is all I need.

Saying that, i do own some fancy decks and a few souvenir decks, but i never use them. I just show to people cos i think they're cool.
