Hi I am just getting into hard core coin magic (Iam more of a card guy, but I know a fair bit of coin magic). Well my question is how do I soften coins so they dont clink when they touch each other.
Sandpaper or whet stone should do the trick. Or you can just go to the coin store and ask to see their junk/cull/slicks/whatever term they use stash and find the softest ones you can get.
It's really not worth softening the normal Aussie coins, unless you're using the old round 50c coins which are made of silver. In which case, you could use sandpaper or a file (not recommended as it doesn't look that great). I would suggest using a tumble grinder (basically a jar or container with ceramic bits or ball bearings in it that shakes or tumbles) which would give the coin a nice even softening.
