I Have Another Performance!

Hey everyone!

I have another performance this Thursday morning. It will be video'd and be similar to a talk show, with me talking with one girl, and then 8-10 people watching. I put together a cool routine (I think) and I wanted to see what you guys think of it!

Start off with two packs of cards, and do a "Do as I do" effect where we both end up with the same card.

Put one deck away, and move on to a simple force, and have a giant 52 on 1 card (one side has a "?" on it, turn it around, and there are all 52 cards, and then open it up and it is one big card.

Put the cards up, and ask to borrow 3 quarters. Do Jay Sankey's Slow Motion Coins to pocket.

Hand her back two coins, and pull the deck out once more. Put the coin I didn't give her back into an envelope. Have her choose a card. I tear the corner off, and it morphs into the quarter, and the corner of the card is in the envelope.

Put the cards away, grab the quarter, and bend it.

I'm not sure about the ending yet. I will either end with the bend OR

Pull out two blank sheets of paper, and talk about how I hope that one day my signature is worth something, and tell her I will give her my signature if she gives me hers. I sign one paper, fold it up, and put it in my pocket. She signs the other paper. I fold it up, and it changes to my signature. I give that to her, and show her signature is now in my pocket.

Any comments or anything you want to tell me to help out? What do you think? Should I try to throw sponge balls in there somewhere? (Lord knows that sponge balls are amazing to most people, and to most girls at that lol)

hmm.. both of your routines sound pretty awesome. The signature one sounds pretty cool and simple.

BTW, Other's may have different opinions with me but, you can use the coin bend as a trick on its own. Make a story, give it some meaning!

That seems pretty long. Or maybe I just read it that way. For something like that I would like to have some variety and do 3-4 tricks because you don't want to bore them. It also depends on how long this will be. So maybe you should do:

Do as I do
Coin Routine
Spongeballs
Index Card thing (french kiss)

In no particular order instead of doing a card trick, another card trick, a coin routine, a card trick, a coin-card crossover, coin trick, index card trick.
Noticing a pattern? So you should probably rethink your routine, not that it's bad, it just needs a little work. :)

Yeah I know what you are saying. The coin bend sounded cool, but I've been playing with it, and I don't like any handlings I have come up with I may just cut it out all together as of now. (Not because I haven't figured something out for it, simply because I don't have the time to work it out, and I don't perform bending coin routines)

I may cut out everything from the coin/corner transpo down, and put in the hershey kiss trick, and finish with the Signature transpo.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

I really like the jumbo 52 on 1, and want to do that I think it will give them a laugh.

Maybe start with Slow Mo Coins.

Do Sponge Balls

52 on 1, then take chosen card and do Hershey Kiss Trick (it goes into the middle of the pack, and she blows a kiss to the cards, and a hershey kiss appears on the back of the card, and then I pop out a real Hershey kiss into her hand, leaving the back of the card just like normal.

IF time permits, I will close it with the signature effect. If time does not permit, then I will be ending with the Hershey Kiss trick which, I think, is a pretty damn powerful effect to end with!

You should order it by.
1. Great Attention Grabber
2. Good Trick (A little worse than the opener, but still good)
3. Better Trick (Better than opener)
4. Great Trick
5. BLOW THEM AWAY!!

If you can't fit 5 tricks in, then take away the worst trick (#2)

Hmm alright lets see.

For the opener maybe "Real Magic" (The phrase real magic is written on a bill across the face of the president...it is folded up, and then when opened, the words real magic have gone through and are now on the other side of the bill) Could this work? I'm having trouble coming up with a good opener :(

2nd, maybe slow mo coins (impressive, but not off the walls)

3rd, sponge balls or 52 on 1 trick

4th, Hershey Kiss trick

5th, signature transpo

I think I am bad at this whole routining thing. I wish I could figure something out. Thanks for all the help BTW!

Here is what I have come up with and I think what I will definately do.

Benson Bowl Routine. (ends with both sponge balls vanishing, and a deck of cards appearing under the bowl.)

Put the bowl away and go into 52 on 1

Next will be Hershey Kiss trick,

and last will be signature transpo

I can give you good advice but it´s going to be hard.
First, don´t do so many ****ing effects. I mean, all you really need are 3 effects that are all play a special part.
Second try to not put all of your effort on the effects but the meaning you are trying to give with it. Think about the show and how you can mingle with it, how you can make it better without them knowing it, sound logical?

Ill go on..
If there are 10 people then try not to concentrate on the girl you are with but the other people as well. Try to get them to participate with it, give them certain things because they are a vital part too(read: they are business). So basically, take three effects and tie them together.

*Opener - you make the atmosphere
*Centerpiece - leave an impression
*Closer - keep them thinking of the second one while blasting their brains out again.

I´m a big fan of not doing the best stuff in the end put trying to make it all blend and keep the real piece/gold towards the end(right now the middle but i usually keep the best stuff for say before the last one).

I understand what you are saying, but there is a reason for just focusing on her. It is a broadcasting class, and it will be set up like a talk show. It will be she and I talking one on one, and the other 8 or so people will just be watching along sort of like a studio audience.

I am having major trouble with this whole routining thing I guess.

With all the effects I have listed, could you tell me kind of how you would put them together?

I could tell you how i would do it but that would differ from what you should do.
As my experience and the way i think.

You know your materials better so try to follow the opener, center and closer scheme.
So take a nice calm effect for the start, something that is clear, somewhat quick(not too quick though, try to make it last around 2 minutes). Then the centerpiece in this case should be something that build upon the princible you gave with the opener and make a lasting impression. Something intimate maybe if not something really magical. And the closer should be a very nice little effect that strikes but does not strike as hard as the second one. A nice ending which will deliver the point of your presentation but will earn it´s place as last. So something maybe that leaves the person thinking. So calm, strike, thoughtful.

Be alerted that this is not a view confirmed by anyone. This is my theory on magic and it might work out great but it might not be the best of ideas. Can anyone make any suggestions to my suggestions so this dude can get a carrieer going? :)

Thanks to everyone helping! I was going to do a benson bowl routine at the start and finish with a deck of cards under the bowl. The problem is that I'm not sure how we are going to be sitting if we will be behind a table or what and then it will also be video taped, so I don't want them to rewatch the video and then catch the load.

So I decided maybe this...?

Start with a math trick. Its where I predict the sum of 5 random six digit numbers that are written out.

Then do 52 on 1

And close with the hershey kiss trick OR paperclipped...not sure which :(

I like the hershey kiss trick because it is crazy and chicks go crazy over it, but I like paperclipped because it keeps to the mindreading theme. Then again, I don't want to just keep telling them that I made a ton of predictions before I showed up, ya know?
