Invent a trick or variation?

Just curious..
If you invented your own variation of a trick, would you call that a new trick or just a variation?;)

You would want to show it to some knowledgeable people who understand the workings of the original and get their feedback on it. If you can't do that, you would call it a variation. The question doesn't make much sense unless you mention the original trick and your experience with it.

I agree.

It all depends really. If it's a new version of Collector's you've never seen, then I'd call it a variation.

If it's based on another trick, but it still relatively new, I'd give the trick a new name but credit the original.

And, of course, if the concept's entirely new, call it your own. But take advice from Sir FansAlot, and get the ideas checked out. Find out if anything similar's been done before. Magic's an old, old, art and ideas are always being re-thought of.
