Do you own any kind of magicians wax?

If you do then its simple. I just cut a lenght of the thread (usually enough to go around my wrist about twice) roll a piece of wax onto each end of the thread. Using the wax balls as a "grip" point just simply tie a knot in the thread (doesn't have to be anything fancy I just tie the same simple knot about 5 times for a good hold and cut off the excess thread). Hope that helps.

The Million Dollar Knot is a video tutorial explaining a quick method for tying your own loops out of thread. PET2.0 is some of the thinnest thread on the market; I highly recommend it. Also check out Yigal Mesika's Thread Dispenser too, it's a bit more visible, but the strength is worth while for more reliable animations.

I make my own loops with both of those thread types and depending on the situation, I will choose the more appropriate thread. ;)
