What's the advantage of this over other controls which could be used in more situations without a gimmick?

the gimmick is very unoticable, and it can be covered up while still being inside the deck in a flash. Its more clean than alot of other controls too.

Can the gimmick do anything else?

It can change a card, but that would be a bit risky.

Well, that's clean. But indeed, I don't see a point to use a gimmick in such situation. Plenty of controls are unnoticeable and absolutely impromptu
