I just want to know what are the pros and cons here. So far I did almost only non-gimmick magic (aside from maybe a gimmicked deck of cards) but recently I looked into some gimmicked stuff but I dont know much about it yet. So I wonder are there tasks were a Standard Raven is better than a Reel and vice versa or is one of them simply "better" than the other?
I hope someone with experience can enlighten me here a bit. ;)

just get the M5, but my recommendation right now is to wait. Ellusionist is coming out a DVD for the M5. Wait till then and buy the whole thing, that will save you a lot of time and many hour of discovery about the gimmick.

i think the 'Raven standard' is a pull, and the 'Raven Reel' is a reel. (as it states.)

M5 is a totally different gimmick. Its neither a Pull nor a reel. Besides, its F-ing expensive.

The Raven Reel, will suck up into a real. Thus making it smaller and the vanish is more complete. The Raven uses elastic, so it doesn't condense into a small package one vanished.

The M5 is a just a magnet, completely different to both variant of the Raven, but can accomplish the same effects.

The Raven...

I would start with a standard Raven you use this in a coat or short sleeved shirt, it is virtually self working but the handling of the Raven does require practice. You can perform numerous vanishes & transpositions, make one coin change into another in the spectator's hand or shrink to a tiny coin. Also there's a DVD on the Raven with effects & tips & two versions on a move thats comes with the Raven. I hope this helps
