Sadness @ Christmas time

Hello everyone.

I thought I would share a sad but yet funny story...

Today my wife, my oldest and I went on a road trip. You see, I live in Northern Indiana and only live about an hour away from Colon, Michigan (Home of Abbott's Magic Company). My wife did not know what to get me for Christmas, so we got in the car and headed on our way.

I have only been there one time before (last Christmas) and thought I knew my way. It's not that hard to make a few left and right hand turns...so I thought. Well, our hour long car ride there ended up being about an hour and a half. Missed my turn and went way out of my way and had to back track. (May be I should have asked for a "GPS" instead) Good news is we did get there. We got some breakfast at a cafe and first headed to Fab Magic that was right across the street.

Fab Magic is a great place but I found nothing there. Everything I asked about they did not have but could order it. Now I am a "got to have it now" kind of a guy so this was not going to cut it. Besides I could have ordered what I wanted from home but would have waited til after Christmas to get it. Again, I want... what I want... now!

So, it was off to Abbott's. We get there and door was locked with a sign saying "out to lunch". I was not heading home with out some magic. No way! No how! So we waited. Then we waited some more. Good thing I had my coins on me. Finally after about an hours wait, we got in. Now, they had one of the items I was looking for (Fakini golf balls) but no flipper coins. So I got the golf balls and Lethal Tender (mainly for the Chinese coin). I want to work on a coin transpo I saw.

Now, here is the "sad" part...after spending more time on getting up there then needed and waiting an hour for Abbott's to open. My wife tells me I don't get this stuff until Christmas morning! :( OK, maybe that's the funny part too.:D

Hope everyone gets a good laugh from this and has a Merry Christmas

Abbott's is a great place but sometimes if you walk in their shelves are bare and not much in stock. Other times you can go in and it is loaded.

Did you ever visit Bill's Steak house which isn't too far from Colon? Ask Greg the next time you are at Abbott's and he'll give you directions.

The magic museum which is about an hour from there is outstanding as well. I posted pics a few months ago when our IBM ring went there, Abbott's and to the cemetary.

Glad you were able to finally get some magic!

You will love the Fakini golf balls. I picked up a set of the 1 3/4 billiard balls over the summer. The handle beautifully.

What resources are you using to learn a routine with them?

The guy at Abbott's threw in a small book (won't know what's in there till Christmas morning) I think the big Mark Wilson book I have has some stuff in there too. If you could recomend something that would be great. Thanks

Mark Wilson's book does have a good section on billiard balls. My favorite routine so far is in Jim Steinmeyer's book "The Magic of Alan Wakeling" which is out of print, but you can find at a reasonable price if you look around. The Learned Pig Project has David Devant's "Secrets of My Magic" and Stanyon's "New Billiard Ball Sleights" both of which have good material. One of Jeff McBride's World Class Manipulation DVDs includes billiard balls and there is a disc in Eddy Ray's card manipulations DVD set on billiard balls (I have this and wouldn't recommend it). Marc DiSouza recomended that I get Levent's Billiard Ball DVDs (which is a 3 DVD set for $46), but I haven't gotten those DVDs yet.
