Hey Guys,

Its me... Blake! Yeah, i haven't posted on the forums in a while. Anyway! I have this stage show/talent show thing coming up in February. Its like some charity thing... Honestly I don't exactly know. But I know its a pretty big auditorium and I have to fill 3-4 minutes long.

Now, I was going to do Gypsy Thread and Always Remember To Floss... I'm more of the punk kinda performer... you know what I mean? yeah, im sure you do, haha. (honestly that wasn't funny at all) anyway, Since its a school event, I cannot do Always Remember To Floss because of the razor blades...

So, i was wondering if you guys could give me some ideas of weird/bizarre effects to do... but it cant be with any weapon kinds of things. Which sucks, I know...

but any ideas would be appreciated,

Thank You

~Blake

Maybe after Gypsy Thread, head into SAW by Sean Fields. You have the thread/string ready to go after the trick, so SAW would be a perfect follow up effect.

Thread! Wayne starts off his show by beginning with Gypsy Thread and then leads into Thread. After that you could easily transition into Saw. If you get the Thread DVD, Wayne shows you how he sets up Gypsy thread and how he goes into Thread from there. If you aren't comfortable with putting stuff in your eye don't let that stop you, Wayne teaches a GREAT version of thread using a gimmick that you make

Hoped that helped!

Zenn- Yes i know, i have the Thread DVD and it is great! I wear contacts so its kind of hard to put the string in my eye.. but im sure i can do it without contacts.

I've heard that people who wear contacts sometimes have a hard time with the effect... I do the sleight method and have gotten great responses. You may want to look into that method instead. I think if you string, see what I did there?, the three effects together you could get a really cool routine out of it

Gypsy Thread? You mean this?

I wouldn't think that would be good for stage...

Weird/bizarre... Saw is good... Ummmm... I've always found the mask effect creepy...

Just a small correction. Gypsy Thread can be done very well on stage, in fact, I saw a magician who used it to close his stage act. And it killed. It's all about the presentation though.

Gypsy thread can be done on stage, but not knowing much about your experience I can't really recommend it.

Those who keep recommending Saw and Thread for an auditorium and a charity event need to stop immediately. Time, audience and venue are the three things you must think of first and I see no evidence that anyone outside of Toby is thinking of any of them.

It's also disappointing that you're asked to name bizarre magic, and the only thing you can think of is shock magic. Frankly, I don't know why everyone is creaming their jeans over thread. Pulling **** out of your face is not magic.

(sigh) That said, I'm just going to throw some ideas off the top of my head.

-Metal bending with carpentry nails.
-Super memory demonstrations.
-Lorayne's Buck (PSI Series)
-Equivoque with a sealed envelope prediction

Stage isn't really my forte and I know very little about your actual style.

EDIT: I see that I arrived too late to do any good. Again. God damn it.

As always my good friend...

I think I only saw once a dvd on bizzare magic called "geek magic" or something. I'm FAR away from that branch of magic, but you can look into it, it is close up stuff, but you can make it work on stage if you put on your creative helmet. I would ask William Draven for advice, he is doing those kinds of things in his stage act. But also listen to Steerpike, those are some good, familly friendly ideas.

Haha here's a funny story about that. I heard that one time a magician (I forget who, but he is dead now) needed something to burn time while some technical issues were being worked out, so he went up on stage, performed the entire gypsy thread routine, got a great response, and the show went on. Well afterwards somebody was like, "That's so great you were all set and ready to perform the Gypsy Thread! Do you always just have that with you?" And the performer just says, "I just faked it. I didn't use any thread at all. You can't tell the difference on that stage anyway!" Apparently the performer had done this many times in the past too. :)

Hahaha! That's what I was thinking, how it would be really hard to see thread on a stage...

Audience. You don't do shock magic and geek stunts for a crowd that did not specifically pay for that. It's just bad taste.

Thread can be done with contacts... contacts have more suction to the eye than one might think... and if you do thread properly... and safely, there's no need for it to ever touch the iris area of the eye.

and thread can be seen. If an effect seems small, make it big. there's not need to use one foot of the stage. walk around. use the entire stage. walk through the aisles.
