I think the best thing to do is to film youself in a quickie video, then upload it to iMovie - immediately press all the buttons you can see, save and copy - everything. Play around with everything. I used to posess a mac with iMovie, and it was awesome.

Like in magic - don't try to expand on what you have until you've become proficient with what you posess. Same principle, really.

But if you must, check up on google - im sure there's lots of tutorials. You've just got to know what you want first, though.

On iMovie I seem to remember that all the special effects were in one of the tabs in the bar with sound effects etc. Right beneath the window where all the clips pop up. Hope that made some sense. I s'pose it depends on what version you have though, as Dee said.

Like deechristopher said it couldn't be eaiser in iMovie 6 HD, but if the mac is new it's probably running leopard and iMovie 7. For some reason they removed a lot of the features that made iMovie so awesome, like how easy it is to add effects. If you do have 7, they offer a free down-grade to 6 HD. I would reccomend doing that and then playing around with everything you can do.

Ill come to the rescue!

Sepia and black and white: Drag a movie file into the storyline, then right click and selct effects. Look throught the list till you find the one you want ;)

Slow-mo: same thing, its lower down on the list.
