What is Dan Sperry's problem?

Oh I know Dan had motivation, the troll reference was merely an example to demonstrate my point. I can see how Dan may have not been happy about the video (which found rather amusing personally, but that's irrelevant), but, as a professional, he didn't handle the issue in a very professional way. I'm not a Sperry hater, nor am I a great fan of his, but I feel that anybody reacting like that in such a situation is in the wrong, regardless of who it is.

I think Dan is just starting to get more national publicity than he ever has before and I think he's reacting like any of us would when you're not used to this level of limelight. If Dan continues to move up to and becomes truly a household name, then I think he won't react like this because there will be so much parody that he'll just get used to it.

If anything, we're seeing how much work it takes to make it to the big times and when you're there what a thick skin you have to have. When you're at the level of Angel, Blaine, and especially Copperfield then parodies much worse than this are a way of life and it's not a big deal anymore.
 
i really don't think that just because dan is "moving up" in fame that he should be expected to act any different. I dont think any celebrity or person in the limelight should be held to any higher moral standing then we hold ourselves, with perhaps a condition upon the area or location in which they portray that. (i.e. i dont think miley cyrus should make out hardcore on disney channel but if she wants to in another setting that is appropriate why are people judging that?) But who says that when your famous everything you do must now be ultimately kosher and PC. Thats just stupid. Everything these days is so cautious and watered down that no one says anything, its all just non-sensical statements that are engineered not to step on any toes, but in doing so accomplishes nothing. Dan saw something he didn't agree with and didn't like, he saw SOMEONE he didn't like, and rather than tip toe around the subject he was open and honest, and you know what, i bet it made a much clearer point and message. People are too two faced and PC these days and its sickening and ruining culture. Its the cause behind a lot of problems.

Now before i get bashed do not be confused between celebrity and those individuals in power. I am not saying that an authority figure, such as an officer or judge should not be held to a higher standard, quite the opposite. Only that being a celebrity within an ENTERTAINMENT field is not a person of power rather of popularity or recognition. Too much power is given or attributed to them and as such blamed on them. People need to be more honest with others, themselves and their actions

jrobarts - I don't agree with much of what you say here, but I couldn't agree more with you here...especially the line I quoted.

I don't think Dan should change if he gets more famous, but its unrealistic to not expect a man or woman to begin to alter their behavior when their environment starts to change drastically. We're not talking about what "should be" but what's realistic.

What I was saying is that Dan will probably not react as strongly to future parodies if he gets to be a household name because it will happen so often. He won't waste time discussing it because if he did then he would spend his entire day doing it.

I'm a big fan of Dan's so I hope he gets there. I think him and Justin Kredible represent the best of magicians that are up and coming who are getting well known but not yet a household name. They're current, cool, doesn't trip old stereotypes, and definitely original.
 
Did anyone ever think that this whole thing may have been taken out of context of what was going on?
 
OK I realize me posting here is about 3 weeks to late and I have kind of missed the discussion at this point, but I just stumbled upon this thread and since this topic involves me directly I wanted to weigh in.

I think Dan's first performance on America's Got Talent was great. He shocked the audience and he freaked out Howie Mandell and everyone was talking about. After I watched it I had what I thought was a funny idea for a parody. Which is wht this was: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsjJTHzt9y0

In my opinion I was just making what I thought was a harmless parody that would get me few views on youtube. I never thought it would cause such a big deal and I really didn't even think Dan would watch it. At least not so soon. When I heard the recording of Dan I couldn't believe how upset he was. Admittedly parts of it were funny like the whole douche canoe thing, but other parts were just quite harsh like the whole child porn thing. I am a Disney children's magician and he accused me of child porn... thats not good for business!

Anyway I could go on, but I know this whole situation is kind of dead now. I just wanted to say that Dan really just needs to lighten up a little bit and he can't let a little youtube video upset him so much. He's a good performer. Well except for his second appearance on AGT... yikes!

I guess I feel that by now, what ever still is left unresolved between you and Dan needs to stay there. Between the two of you, and leave the rest of us in the community out of it.

Hahaha I still love Dan. The Brent guy is kind of a d***, and who cares if Dan has his opinion. Everyone does, not one person on here can tell me that they've watched someone perform a trick and not liked who they are, on top of him being an a** I would have been surprised if Dan hasn't said anything. I've met Dan personally and he's a really nice guy. Who cares if he says his opinion once in a while.
