https://doi.apa.org/doiLanding?doi=10.1037/aca0000459 This is paywalled so some of the details will be left out unless you can get access via; college student, work, or just pay the fee….write the authors? But from the abstract;

In a multinational sample of 1,599 adults, people who hated magic were marked by (a) lower openness to experience and lower awe-proneness; (b) higher dogmatism, intolerance of uncertainty, and personal need for structure; and (c) higher socially aversive traits, such as lower agreeableness, greater interpersonal dominance, and higher psychopathy.
Pretty sure anyone who has been doing magic for a while could have told you some of this. Plenty of books and performers give advice on interacting with these people and that advice often targets some of the highlighted findings from the poll.…for instance appealing to their interpersonal dominance by identifying the “alpha” of a group and seeking their permission to perform for the group.
I figured some people here might enjoy some of this information and make some of their own connections and observations.

Have you read the article?

“ What is meant by preprint? A preprint is a version of a scientific manuscript posted on a public server prior to formal peer review. As soon as it's posted, your preprint becomes a permanent part of the scientific record, citable with its own unique DOI.”

If anyone is interested and you don’t have $14.95 you can read the preprint version for free https://psyarxiv.com/mzry6

Good find on the free link, thanx! Yeah I read it thru my college and didn’t dig around for a free version.

It will be interesting to see what portions others pick to study or get more data on. With quantitative studies there is usually lots of data, it’s just a matter of sussing out relations and causes. Some of the data had weak effects but decent correlation like dislike of magic across the genders…it would be interesting if this holds with more data (probably will because many reasons) , but some of the findings surprised me like the one on interpersonal dominance being a notable factor in disliking magic but those who scored high on sadism….were more likely to enjoy magic🤣
