Singapore, SgWhich artists have inspired you the most in your work thus far?
Dai Vernon, Dan and Dave, Theory11, Ellusionist, Helder Guimaraes.
What advice would you give to new performers just starting today?
I would say keep perform when ever you have the chance. It can be for family members, friends, or even show. Get used to perform for strangers and on camera. Like film your own performance.
Study as much as you can. Try to change a trick that you learnt to suit you. Like changing the double-lift, change finger position on moves you having problem with.
Be yourself. Never fully copy your favorite performers. Take what is good. Than after a long run you will find your style naturally.
Be humble. Never ever think you are the best. Always think that there is always something to improve. Even my very first trick ambitious card i also do keep changing. Like maybe i learn a new kind of double lift which make it even look like a single has turned over.
Help the magic community. Magic is a very tiring hobby. Where you practice for months on this trick, practicing the timing to perform a sleight, writing your script and that one trick may only last 3 mins. But it will always paid off. So help anyone. There always something to learn.
And most important of all. Never give up. If you do its over. "Anything is possible"
How often do you practice - how do you keep your skills (and mind) sharp?
When ever i have the time. If i am practicing a flourish. When i watch television, i will keep practicing that flourish over and over again till i have a very solid muscle memory. Than film yourself doing the flourish and see which area does not look good adjust from there.
Practicing Magic. I will first get all the moves down and keep practicing till i do not have to think about what i have to do next. Than write a script of your performance. Make it simple to understand and direct. Than perform for yourself on a camera and watch it. If it looks good, perform for people. If not go back and see the video what went wrong and change accordingly.
Keeping your mind sharp. Do some sports, I love playing basketball and badminton. Keep exercise. Or go to the gym to workout. And rest enough.
