Tamborine Mountain, AuWhen I was about 10, my dad bought me a deck of cards after I saw Dynamo do a trick on the television. I was soon going about the house constantly doing magic tricks and card flourishes that I'd learned of Youtube about 2 hours earlier.
One day I found a guy on Youtube named Zach Mueller, and after watching his videos, I realised that if I wanted to be both a Cardist and Magician, and if I wanted to get to the level he was at, I needed to practice. Big time.
Over the years I started to lean towards Cardistry more than magic, because I found that cardistry was more suited to me than magic. I definitely still do magic, just.... not as often.
I would love to throw out a special thanks to my Dad, whom without which I would never be the person I am today. Thank you, Dad.
Which artists have inspired you the most in your work thus far?
Most definitely the people who have inspired me most are Zach Mueller, Andrei Jikh and my Dad. Thanks to my Dad, I'm now a part of this magic/cardistry community. He introduced me to it.
If you could have dinner with any magician, past or present, who would that be and why?
Zach Mueller. No contest. Why? because ever since I heard about him I've wanted to meet him. He just seems like such an easy, out-going guy. When I heard he was doing a roadtrip, I was thinking "Oh god, please come to Australia" But Alas. But I will meet him one day, if only for a couple of minutes. I will.
What vision do you see for the future of cardistry?
I can see cardistry breaking off from magic, and becoming (probably) a house-hold name. It would be so cool to hear people, ordinary people, talking about cardistry as much as they did magic. Scratch that, it would be ****ing awesome.
How often do you practice - how do you keep your skills (and mind) sharp?
Very often. Every day after school, and in between classes, I grab a deck of cards and practice. At least 4-5 hours of practice takes up every single day of my life. If I don't pick up a deck of cards, I am devastated because I cannot find one.
