I've technically been doing magic for 5 or so years, but I started around 2007, with the cheap magic sets that everyone has as a child, and my enjoyment of it sort of fizzled out, and it only was rekindled when I noticed someone fiddling around with cards, and decided to join in. I soon got to know him, and his name was Emmanuel (Emmanuel Li, check him out on the wire). From there, I progressed further and further, until I got to where I am right now, today.
How did you first get started in magic?
I got a magic set, like most young children, but what really got me into the 'real' world of magic, and not suspicious plastic cheap toys which fall apart almost instantly, was my friend Emmanuel and the many amazing magic YouTube channels. They taught me my first tricks, and really started me off on my path to being a true magician.
Which artists have inspired you the most in your work thus far?
Artists like Oz Pearlman and Calen Morelli have been my main source of inspiration, but people like Bizzaro have added humourous twists to my tricks like none other.
What is your creative process - how do you come up with new effects and ideas?
My main process, usually done with my co-magician Emmanuel Li, is to think of a suitable name, then an effect that would impress us, and finally the method. This is the method that seems to work with us; we have tried other ones E.G. doing the method first, but no good ideas came to us, and we found we had to refine the method to the one we have now.
What advice would you give to new performers just starting today?
Don't give up on your ideas, however pointless they may seem. With a little love and attention they can become mind-blowing effects that make your reputation.
