Alternate Universe

Rick Lax

Digital Instruction $6.95
Special Thanks: Mad props to Jellomaster/Sponge Ball King Bizzaro—he shot and edited everything you’re about to see.

A great magic trick just got even better.

What’s the great trick? It’s “Out of This World.”

Paul Curry created “Out of This World” in the 1940s, and since that time, a lot of magicians have put their own spins on it. Here’s the basic idea: The spectator mixes up half the deck and then the cards are turned over to reveal the red cards and the black cards are totally separated.

Rick’s version of this trick, “Alternate Universe,” picks up where Harry Lorayne’s version (“Out of This Universe”) left off.

What’s the update?

Now, you can show the cards’ faces BEFORE you start the trick. The red cards and the black cards START OUT mixed up. (With all other “Out Of This Universe” tricks, the red cards and the black cards are pre-segregated, so you can’t show the cards’ faces beforehand.)

For $6.95, Rick will teach you everything you need to know to perform “Alternate Universe.” He’ll teach you how to do it with a prearranged deck, and how to do it with a borrowed, shuffled deck.

Also included:

-Complete performance -Detailed explanation -Jam session with magician Justin Flom -Bonus additional phase -Closing thoughts

You’re going to get your money’s worth.

If you already perform “Out of This World,” you’re going to want this as an addition.

And if you’ve never heard of the trick “Out of This World,” then Rick’s “Alternate Universe” is a great starting point.

Special thanks to Jon Armstrong, Max Maven, and Bill Goodwin. Thanks again to Bizzaro for his solid camera work, computer work, and creative consulting. And thanks to Justin Flom for the on-camera jam session.

AMAZING TRICK! Rick Lax comes up with some genius effects. I love this one so much because it is easy to perform and gets amazing reactions!

Its a good effect with a few phases and a good explanation. Though a little bit pricey, it is still a good buy.

This trick is very good! There are actually 2 phases of this trick which are not shown in this above demo video. I was impressed with the method and it was taught clearly without any confusion. I think this is overall a great trick, but I do prefer phase 1 over phase 2. Buy this!

Great trick, but a little expensive.

I already reviewed this effect but I didn't go into deep detail of why I liked it, because I like more than what said.

First Phase: I love this phase and it's really better than the other "Out of this World" variations. I like how it's almost entirely self-working and that the spectator does most of the work.

Second Phase: The second part of this trick is really good too but it's a little bit hard to remember what to do. Other than that, this part is very cool and uses five packets instead of four like the first phase.

Method for First Phase: The method for this phase is so freaking clever. Seriously, when you learn this, you'll be so surprised at how clever this is. It's so freaking unbelievable.

Method for Second Phase: This method is really good too, but as I said, it's a little bit hard to remember. Other than that, it's really good and really clever either way.

Teaching: Rick Lax is a really good teacher. It's good that he knew what he was gonna say and he taught it really well.

Quality: The quality for the download is pretty good. He doesn't use a microphone clipped on his shirt but he is REALLY loud and you can hear him just fine so he doesn't really need one.

Price: The price for this trick is just right for what you are getting, and what you're getting is pretty much AWESOME!

Overall: This is probably the best that Rick has done and I definitely suggest adding this to your arsenal of magic tricks. Overall, this is a really awesome, fooling effect.

Rick Lax creates magic like a goddess. Genius effect. A little bit on the expensive side, but if you want a BA OOTW routine, you have come to the right place. 5/5.

Although it doesn't show it on the trailer this is actually a 2 phase routine, both seemingly impossible. Everything seems very fair as you are giving the spectator choices as to how the cards are arranged and shuffled. One of my new favorite OOTW along with Paul Harris' Galaxy.

Alright, I love the "Out of this World" trick. But this is much more. You can use this with a borrowed deck and you can show the faces of the cards before you start the trick.

This is fricken amazing!!! Shuffling the cards, then the reds and blacks are separated?! BUY THIS!!!

Well since there are no reviews after being out for about a week I'm going to write a review.

I've always been a fan of this effect and I know several methods of doing it and each have their advantages and disadvantages.

What I really loved about this method is that the faces of the cards can be shown before the spectators shuffle the cards and the effect begins. I think this pretty much sells the effect.

Rick is an excellent teacher. The download is not in HD, it has no body mics and expensive lighting BUT, it isn't needed. Rick even quickly goes over how to perform the trick at a moment's notice without a setup from a borrowed and shuffled deck.

If you like these kind of effects, then I would definitely suggest buying this!

Seems a little bit complex now. I feel there is a lot of unnecessary new moves to achieve the same result, in the end the spectator would remember the same thing regardless of the old or new method. Also, the look of the girl at 0:49 makes me believe that the spectator would be bored as hell. Sorry... not buying it.
