Invisible Deck

As stated earlier you word choice was bad. Also, you handle the invisible deck very very very poorly. You stop on the card that it is under giving away that there is something special. You need to reveal the card without stopping the spread, it looks natural that way. The only good thing about this was that you came up with a unique patter.

Hi Mitchell. I like the premise for the presentation. I doest look like you could take it a lot further, still. For a start, I think you will benefit from trying to build some kind of expectation that something is going to happen, maybe by using some kind of cryptic explanation of what is about to happen which wil also add to the theatre of the routine. "I've always found the idea of intuition fascinating. Sometimes people know things they seemingly couldn't without even thinking about it and often without realising they know. I'd like to try a little experiment which attempts to invoke intuition by achieving a certain mental state. Would you mind helping me? Here I have a deck of cards, but earlier I did something to this deck which I won't tell you, just yet. Hold it between your hands. Now imagine an tiny earthquake..." Something like this? Also, I think it would also be nice to add something more to the earthquake sequence. Maybe they have to imagine a very small earthquake to begin with, but they then need to imagine it getting stronger and stronger and stronger until a card flips face up. Also emphasise that they are to see this card completely naturally and not at all forced so it is a genuinely random card, not necessarily one of the more popular cards, it could be anything. Without this, many people, even if it's after you have finished the performance, may try to reverse engineer the effect. When they do, one of the easiest answers they will come to is "everyone says that card". If you emphasise that the randomness of hat card, you will avoid this problem. Finally, you can build suspense before the final reveal. Taking on board my first suggestion, you will have already added a sense of expectation, which can enhance the suspense, however, before finally revealing the card, this routine would certainly benefit from a recap. Recap the fairness of the routine while the card is still face down. Emphasise that it could have been any card. Emphasise how you had not influenced them to say anyth

i dislike the use of 'okay' every 10 seconds. its reaffirmation. it psychologically draws the spectator to be 'led' which in my personal opinion is bad. think of it in a subconcious level. think of an earthquake, OKAY? Now think of the cards sprawled on the floor.. OKAY? Does that make sense? it would feel like they're being purposely led, and i'd imagine they'd feel deceived, conned more like. its like in an ACR and saying "right i'll put your card in the middle.. no i'll really put it in the middle, trust me." i forgot to say the good parts: The patter was cool, and audience participation was cool too. (where they put their hands over the deck etc)

unique patter made this trick yours. not just the invisible deck, but the deck in an earthquake. relax more during the performance and prolong the moment by making sure that they memorized the card that fell over the wrong way. kevin

I think you should talk about building a card house. And then talk about the earthquake knocking them over.

I liked your performance, but you did seem a little nervous. I think it's funny that these particular performances could have been done without an Invisible Deck. I mean Ace of Spades for the guy and Queen of Hearts for the ladies ... Sometimes magic is just too easy.

It was ok. It seemed to me like you rushed through it too much, though. Like you had to be somewhere, and you couldn't give your performance the full attention it deserves. Try to slow it down a bit. Your spread of the cards was also a little to "tight". Make it look more loose, so it looks like a normal deck. The only other thing I didn't like was how you said, "ok, this is what I want you to do," about every five seconds. Work on that and saying "ok", and you'll be golden. I used to have the same problem, except I would say "all right" all the time. To fix this, I highly recommend wearing a rubber band for two to three weeks, and snapping your self as hard as you can everytime you do the thing that you're trying not to do. This will put a very quick stop to your bad habits. I now almost NEVER say all right. Hope it works out for you! Overall, though, I liked your performances. Good job!

Just for people noticing who like to do card forces without cards. Notice how you just ask a girl on the spot what card they want or like..it is the Queen of Hearts, shown twice in this...and from a guy a commonly named card the jack of spades :)

i like tha earthquake patter but you NEED to draw them in. your style of doing it has SO much potential. heres what u need to do. u found your reasoning of doin it happenin already so your already halfway there. but tha way you present yourself, you just kind of do it. if you present yourself in a more serious manor, (NOT PROFESSIONAL MANNER) but someone who really is bein natural with people but at tha same time dont just be like "its really wierd i know this sounds strange" because that draws them OUT of tha trick. make it a little bit longer and present it a lil bit more serious. but i haveta say this is tha 1st time ive seen tha earthquake idea and i LOVED it. tha shaking, and it happening in their hands is tha best idea ive seen someone else come up with it really is

I do not belive your being yourself, be yourself its a good thing and you do not need to reassure somone every sentence with the word ok.

I say good creative storyline...however it doesn't seem to work for YOU. Find another way to present the effect. Let's say you present the deck and have them hold it in the same manner before but this time have them select a card and turn their hands over. Gives a reason for the card to turn over. Not so many words have to be used. "HOLD THIS DECK AND THINK OF A CARD"..."NOW TURN YOUR HANDS OVER" "WHAT WAS YOUR CARD?"....I know its kinds DBesq but simple works. This is a one trick deck for you, milk it for what it is. Simple hits hard. No need for big stories here.

Magic is about presentation. You have to learn to be comfortable around everyone. You know slieghts and tricks and secrets that they do not. if you approach with confidence and speak slowly they will pay attention. you dont need to say OK every three seconds to keep their attention. Yes you got reactions Mitchell but they could have been much stronger if you had been more confident. I think what magicians fear is the possibility that someone will discover the secret, but we have to get over that fear and approach them with the attitude that there is no way they can figure it out. The invisible deck is perfect for that. It requires very little effort on the magicians part and in the spectators mind the magic practically happens in their hands. It was good but it could be better.

I think its weird how there are all these negative comments about how he didn't connect with his audience, his patter sucked, blah blah blah. Did nobody see the reactions from some of these people? What more could you possibly ask for? I would really like to see all of your guy's performances and see how much better you are than him...
