"One problem I know I have, and that I try to correct when I think about it, is talking too fast. I do it in every day conversations, and am trying to force myself to slow down when I'm performing." That's what I think kinda degraded your Believe performance. That's what I meant by "nervous". And as for intentionally "finding" the "wrong" card, I agree with you - I find that it enhances the performance in some way, you usually always get a laugh, and all is good. However, I think that DannyT said what he said because you kind of... over-pretended. When I'm showing a wrong card, I usually just turn the indifferent card over and say something like "and here's your card". I then patter for a few seconds until someone shouts out that it isn't. All I mean is that I think the entire Believe performance, including the acting and script for the wrong card, need a little work. Again, amazing job getting out there! I rated this a 5/5. Best wishes, Ben

Very nice. But I think that the "Believe" part was kinda boring, I don't know if it was the same for them but anyway it ended up pretty good. Live performance is always fun to watch! =)

It looks like the girls were a little confused when you were telling your opening story before you did the trick "Believe". I wanna remind you that an opener would be something short, understandable, visual, and sweet. The trick was good, you just need a different way to present it so that it's understandable. I never try to pretend to get the right card when it's wrong for the first trick. It brings down your credibility on a first impression. I'm just saying this so you could improve. It was a good video and I enjoyed it. Good work.

See, on the flip side of that, I find that getting the wrong card, in a street setting, alleviates the pressure the audience feels. The audience feels a certain pressure for the performer to succeed (most people aren't looking to see you screw up badly). By "messing up" I get a little laugh, and it brings me down to their level, in that we're all friends, and I happen to have a deck of cards. In a stage setting, yes, getting the wrong card just for a little laugh can immensely reduce your credibility, and I wouldn't recommend it. However, in this setting, eliminating the "aura" that surrounds me, the performer, makes my relationship with them stronger. Of course, some people like the standing on a pedestal thing, it's just not for me. With regard to my Believe introduction, it's not that great. I don't even know what I'm saying half the time, 'cause I rarely find myself performing it. I have worked out better patter since this was shot though. Thanks for the tips. SG

Great job for getting out there. Just a tip, on two card monte, I wouldn't put so much emphasis on "THINK". You performed this very well :) And I also feel that you were a bit nervous when performing Believe, I think you could have increased their reactions a bit if you put a little more effort in. Don't get me wrong, I'm not criticizing you, just trying to help you get the best reactions possible :) Again, GREAT job, I'm proud that you went out and performed! It's always a good feeling, isn't it? Cheers, Ben

Well, you're right, every time I go out to perform, it's a great feeling. I don't think many people really understand or appreciate it. The reason I've designed my patter with emphasis on "think" is to instill doubt in them. I've just told them of a con game in which there is a switch that they don't see. So, naturally, when I say "think" like that, they want to check the card and they begin to doubt themselves. This way, I can see if they're the type of spectator that will turn the cards over before, and I can also be assured my next DL will go unnoticed. If this makes any sense, they'll begin to doubt their doubt. With regard to Believe, I didn't feel nervous, and I don't think I looked it. Though I was perfectly happy with the "Oh that's so cool! [applause]" a scream would have been better. I guess everyone is different. One problem I know I have, and that I try to correct when I think about it, is talking too fast. I do it in every day conversations, and am trying to force myself to slow down when I'm performing. Thanks for the helpful comments though. Maybe I'll film some more later and put that up. SG
