Usurp Concept

Try this out next time you have a pack of Jumbo Index cards; get the seven of spades and eight of clubs, seven on top, eight below. Both of these cards should be sandwiched between two others. Put a corner crimp on the right front edge of the seven so that it can be pulled back with the top cover card without the use of a break. Pull the top two cards back enough to show the "8", but not enough to show which suit it is of. In one action push the top two cards flush, ditching the seven and carrying the top card forward, out jogging it. Keep the left hand covering the index of the seven, showing what appears to be half of an eight of spades. Just a little touch I've found several applications for, sorry if the explanation isn't clear, I don't have cards on me right now to clarify the idea to myself.

To be honest, literally anyone that works with impossible locations knows how to miscall a card.
