I've got two suggestions: Dress up as the queen of spades and the king of hearts, and do something about the story behind the murdering queen. Or, Dress up as a horse (as previously suggested), as two separate parts. But instead of having the connecting end just flopping, somehow make it look like there is a portal 2 style portal on each end. It might be difficult, but figure out how to really make it look like you are a horse with a portal in the center of it. It will be... magical?

You should go as a horse (maybe add a toilet role to make yourselves into a unicorn), Zach could be the bottom half and Christen could be on top, or maybe the other way around if Zach doesn't feel masculine enough...

Christian should dress up like Zatanna, coz she is charming or Batwoman (Barbara Gordon) coz redheads are awesome too! Zach definitely dress up like Harry Potter or Gambit from X Men !
