Are these effects possible?

The effects are definitely possible and have been published in a variety of other sources. But the site is still bullsh*t, essentially ripping off material from Derren Brown's work and trying to capitalize off his fame and reputation.

If you want, I can give you a list of books and other products that would do the effects justice if you're genuinely interested in them. Just PM me. But I would NOT recommend purchasing them from such a laughable site. Fair warning.

So, where can i find legit sources for all these effects?
It can be beginner (recommended) or intermediate... I am eager to learn...

I logged on today to find I've received a handful of PMs regarding the material listed above. I understand a lot of you express an interest in emulating Derren Brown and performing similar material. I'll provide a public list of resources here, however, it should be noted that I encourage more originality than blatant copycatting. The books I'm about to mention offer a wealth of information that deserves to be thoroughly studied with an open mind. I would recommend forgetting about Derren Brown (and the material you're specifically searching for) as you read these books, because doing so will allow you to think of your own standards and style. I think that's very, very important. Doing so will also allow you to discover powerful material that hasn't been done before.

First and foremost, any aspiring mentalist needs 13 Steps to Mentalism by Tony Corinda. I'm willing to bet my life savings that this book was one of Derren's first pieces of literature in his personal library. The majority of what he performs on television can be accomplished using the methods in this book. It is a definitive source to reading minds, making predictions, and influencing mind control. This book will give you the basics of what you need to perform some amazing stuff:

- Memorizing an entire deck of cards in less than 10 seconds.
- Knowing what people merely think of when asked to imagine something.
- Being able to connect with dead relatives
- Influencing spectator's decisions 100% of the time
- Predicting huge headlines such as sports scores or worldly current events

After acquiring a foundation in mentalism with 13 Steps, I think you can start to stem off in a few directions. I would recommend learning more about Banachek's material. He has a magnificent book, Psychological Subtleties, which will allow you to read an audience's mind without having to write anything down at all. This combined with the material from 13 Steps should be enough to make a fulle career as a paranormalist. Everyone from David Blaine to David Copperfield has used the subtleties from this book to make themselves look and feel more legitimate as mindreaders.

Banachek also has a routine called Psychokinetic Touches, which will allow you to have one person feel you touch them even though you came nowhere near them at all. It can be done onstage or upclose in a variety of different settings. It is absolutely impromptu and requires no gimmicks. This can be accentuated with the use of loops, and I believe Yigal Mesika and Danny Garcia have released material on how to use loops to create a similar illusion.

Banachek is a definitive source on muscle reading as well. In my opinion, muscle reading is the closest thing to mind reading you'll ever accomplish. His book, Psychophysiological Thought Reading will allow you to know where in a building a set of keys was hidden while you were locked in a room blind-folded by yourself. This technique requires no stooges and is impromptu. It will also allow you to know which hand a spectator is hiding a coin in. Once studied and practiced, it is 100% accurate and reliable.

Once you study Banachek, look into Patrick G. Redford's material. He's a working psychological illusionist who performs similar effects to Derren's. I find his material to be very practical and fun to do. His booklet, Glemme, allows you to make a spectator legitimately forget what color his shirt is even though he's wearing it and looking directly at it. And then with a snap of your fingers, you can make him remember. His other works are awesome, and I recommend anything he puts out. He's an excellent resource to learn dual reality concepts and practical NLP to your advantage.

Real Mental Magic by Ormond McGill is a small book with a wealth of awesome, hard-hitting material. It will show you how to apparently hypnotize people into thinking they cannot open their eyes or lift their hands of the table. It will allow you to take away the strength of the biggest person in the room. It will show how to make a person as light as a feather when people lift him up to the ceiling using only their index fingers. All this can be done without NLP or hypnosis. Intermingled in the book is additional lessons in muscle reading and magic theory.

And lastly-- get Derren Brown's books. They're hard to find and extremely expensive. I was fortunate to have bought my copies when they were first released in the 90s. The first edition of Pure Effect shows how to do his effect Lift where you control the rise and fall of a spectator's arm. The effect was not printed in any other edition of the book. If you can get your hands on the first edition, be prepared to pay $300-500 for it. You most likely won't be able to get a copy from anywhere besides EBay. In any case, Pure Effect and Absolute Magic will change the way you think about the performance of magic and mentalism and will teach a few psychological effects. Derren likes working with risk and isn't afraid that a lot of his methods are not 100% accurate all the time. That might disappoint you-- or it might appeal to you. These books obviously show the starting point of his transition from a magician to a direct mentalist.

It should be noted that I personally believe he does not use nearly half as much hypnosis or NLP as he claims. He uses NLP and hypnosis as presentational hooks, but he rarely employs them to actually achieve the desired effect. I'm one of those who feel that he simply uses the basics found in Corinda and then uses camera editing to his advantage to make each performance flawless. I find nothing wrong with that, but I do think it's misleading among aspiring performers who desire to learn similar things. In any case, I believe the following books are quality literature that will allow you to see how hypnosis and NLP work so you can blend them into your performance and presentation as well.

- The New Encyclopedia of Stage Hypnotism by Ormond McGill
- Neurolinguistic Programming for Dummies
- MindWorks by Anne Linden
- NLP Workbook by Joseph O'Conner

I hope this answers a lot of people questions. These resources will provide you with an abundant amount of information and it will take a lot of effort and studying to find exactly what you're looking for. However, I can confidently assure you that these resources are of better quality and background than the cheap knockoff effects presented on the site above. I hope some of these works intrigue you. If you want anymore information-- don't hesitate to get in touch.

Thanx Romero, thank you so much...
I will look into those book's in the exact order you told us to...

I just have one question, it is about "interrupted handshake" that Derren Brown uses all the time when he wants to put someone to sleep...
Where can we find a source for that?

Thanx in advance...

Cheers

Just a small point on what Romeo said. Derren Brown has never claimed to use NLP, and, in fact, very rarely explicitly mentions hypnosis. He allows his audience to draw conclusions regarding his methods for themselves.

To be honest, if you're a magician wanting to achieve mind control effects, then you're probably going to be disappointed with a lot of NLP books. I would suggest having a look at Sleight of Mind by Ian Harling and Martin Nyrup, which has a good introduction to hypnosis, NLP, suggestion and these kind of techniques.

Edit: Just noticed the question on the handshake interrupt. Richard Bandler teaches it on some of his expensive NLP seminar videos, but you can also learn it from looking at old texts by Milton Erickson. Once you understand the principle of a pattern interrupt, and if you've got some authority and confidence to you, it's pretty easy to pull off. I would recommend just trying it out on your friends and see how you get on.
