Any other questions one should take into account when considering an effect?

Yes. A lot. But right now I just want to cover the idea of motivation. It has to look like something done for a purpose other than its own sake or for the indulgence of the magician. It's why I don't do much card magic anymore. Most of it amounts to little more than masturbation.

Yes. A lot. But right now I just want to cover the idea of motivation. It has to look like something done for a purpose other than its own sake or for the indulgence of the magician. It's why I don't do much card magic anymore. Most of it amounts to little more than masturbation.

That completely depends on the magician. I would agree that some magicians' choice of effects and the techniques used in those effects are based off of self-indulgence, but more so for the hobbyist than for the working professional. Many working professionals perform the tricks that are not high on their "I really enjoy this effect" list, but because of the commercial selling point behind the effect, they realize some sacrifices need to be made for the sake of the "job". If I were to indulge myself in a show, I would do everything from By Forces Unseen, and not Chicago Opener, a trick that uses a simple force and a DL.

Well, I guess the realization that "If I do this type of magic, I will get better reactions, resulting in more shows, which ultimately equals more money for me," can also be labeled as self-indulgence.

Thanks for all tips and advices. I just want to say some things. I know maybe a lot of you think that I'm just like those other kids or teenagers who does magic. No. I make sure that I have a little bit of originality in my performance style and I also make sure that my presentation is good. I'm not trying to imitate any magician. I want to be a little different. I always try to perform the effect with true life.

One reason why I wrote those effects with a description is for some of those magicians who are not familiar with the effect.
I didn't really explain briefly about the way or how perform those effects. But I already include some other possibilities on performing it. An example is the serial biller. The restoration of the bill could take place in the spectator's own hands. Another example is the coin bite. It could be signed by the spectators. Etc.

The reason why I'm asking for your advices on other powerful effects is because I haven't bought powerful magic effects for a while. So I thought I could ask first for your advices before I buy.

Yes I agree that the true power of most magic effects is not the piece but rather the person who performs. It's just like the piano. It doesn't mean that if you play a more difficult piece than another person in a concert, the people will like you more. Sometimes or most of the time the people could like the person who played a less difficult piece than you because he/she played it by heart.

So again, thank you very much for all your tips.

I'm not familiar with too many working pros that DON'T use material they love and are passionate about. I am fully aware of those (myself included) who've pulled routines out of a show because they didn't work as hoped, but I've yet to meet any pro that does a piece simply because it's commercial even though, they may design a show in a manner that is commercially appealing; big difference there. Too, as I've said here and elswhere, what works for one guy as an opener may not work for the next. At the same time, the reason a routine might fail in the hands of one person and not the other, is the simple fact that you are using the wrong presentation for you... you've not adjusted the effect and its handling so as to fit your personality and style.

One last thing that should be noted; rather than my saying it, I'll simply refer all of you to this article in hope that you will each digest what Michael has to share. On-Line VISIONS (of course, you could check out my column there too, if you'd like.
