This is not about Bicycle becoming Mandolin or limited edition decks or whatever... Just random curiosity. What is the future of playing cards? Do they have a future? Business wise? Will they stand the test of time? Will they eventually be taken off the shelves? Or does the future look strong?

Considering gambling games such as poker and blackjack along with standard family card games I'd say the future isn't going to change anytime soon, let alone die out.

With the move of gambling and card games to the online domain, cards will lose market share. But I don't think they will cease to exist.

If Dice, and games with dice, managed to survive the technological innovation of the playing card some 600 years ago, then I reckon the playing card will have no trouble surviving video poker.

eostresh mentioned dice but on top of that and cards, juggling and rubix cubes have stood the test of time so far. As far as specific cards, Deck1 and Sentinels are by far my favorite cards to date in design and handling though. Can't wait to see what USPCC come up with after the web press.
