Getting rid of little kids with magic...

This is a good idea. I will teach magic from time to time but I can work on being more strategic with what I teach and why for sure! How did you hear about that trick? It's my go to teach-a-trick for kids that can read!

Getting rid of little kids with magic...

You completely get where I'm coming from :) Connecting with the parents is solid advice and it's something I can work on. This is great! I've used the second line in a way and it seems to work. The first ones a little on the blunt side, but it I think it would work with the right tone. I'll...

Getting rid of little kids with magic...

This is possible. I'm perfectly able to perform for kids and they are polite for the most part. This really isn't the issue. The title was hyperbole. I'm a father of 2 with one on the way. Before going full-time as a magician I was an elementary school substitute, then a highschool French...

    Favorite magic dealers?

I know we are on the Theory 11 message boards but I'm curious about everyone's tastes. Contrary to popular belief there's not a whole lot of hate between magic dealers and I really don't want to ruffle feathers but I'd love to hear about your favorite magic dealers. Give your reasons, and try...

Getting rid of little kids with magic...

So, I have a residency at a nice ski resort. I perform magic while people are relaxing after skiing. My job is to perform magic for as many people as possible in 2 or 3 hours. I need help figuring out how to end my performance for kids specifically. At the resort I have 3 main audiences I...

Magic for Humans uses camera tricks?

That's pretty hard to believe but I have some thoughts. He tells us all that he hired the audience at the beginning, the guy sitting in the chair could easily have been hired as well. He practically told us as much. So, if everyone is apaid actor from Craigslist we have more flexibility with...

Magic for Humans uses camera tricks?

I have seen this claim in a few places and I want to ask, is it a commonly held belief that Magic for Human's with Justin Willman uses stooges and camera tricks? I really don't think he does use camera tricks or stooges. I've heard some people claim that he uses CGI as well. I really don't see...

    How often are you fooled?

Yes, I think personally Eric Mead's 90/10 rule applies much of the time. When a layperson or beginner in magic sees a trick and 90% of it fools them but they catch on to about 10% of the trick they will say they are not fooled. Magicians tend to be the opposite. When they understand 90% of the...

    Can you credit this?

No, that's not it at all. In my view you are pointing at wagons, and trains, and saying, "See, that's an automobile!" We generally ignore his innovation, which is the reason I started this thread in the first place. From the The Ministry of Manipulation "The following are accredited to...

    How often are you fooled?

We've all given up quite a bit of the magical experience given the nature of our hobby. I hear magicians claim that they are not fooled by magic often, and I find that I am fooled almost daily. I just watched a few episodes of Magic for Humans season 2 and Justin Flom's Magic Mixtape and I was...

Who is the most prolific magic creator?

They are both totally on the list as well! I think Max Maven's most popular effects might be B'wave, and Kurotsuke. I could probably do more research into this. I think Dan has at least 3 effects that are as popular as B'wave the thumbs up trick, linking rubber bands, and Cardtoon. He has more...

    Can you credit this?

This is the reason I posted this, and from your comments, I'm sure we'll disagree on most of this. That's fine. There is an idea that is popular among amateur magicians that there is no beginning to magic, and that if I figure the trick out I can go and perform it. Much of the lay public has no...

Who is the most prolific magic creator?

I want to know who you think is or was the most prolific magic creator of all time. I have thought about this a lot and my mind has changed many times, but at this point I believe Dan Harlan is the most prolific magic creator of all time. He's a part of a very short list with Ed Marlo, Jim...

    Magic Clones

So there are a few magicians out there that resemble other magicians quite a lot. It may be because they were mentored in a specific way, or it's just happenstance. But there are a few magicians who remind me strongly of other magicians. Keep in mind, I believe everyone on this list is...

What's the best magic thing you have received this year?

All good books, though I wasn't exactly enamored with the Magic Rainbow as much as I have liked some of his past books. I did like the section on how humor can make or break a great trick. The placement of jokes within a routine and how they affect the magic was super interesting to me.
