    Music for the magician...

It's that type of arrogant judgement that really annoys me. I love all sorts of music (right now I'm listening mostly to Tom Waits, The get up kids and Brand New), including Hardcore punk and Noisecore. I really despise the phrase 'Constructed Noise' that some people like to throw around...

    Pop-eyed Popper

It can be used for a triumph styled effect. I've never used one (I hate fully gaffed deck work, generally*) But I've watched a demo in which the POP was used for a triumph. CL *Apart from the invisible deck**. **And my Child lock deck.

    Who am I?

It appears as though you favour the IMPLICIT over the EXPLICIT in magical effect. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. I would suggest studying some mentalism. Most mentalism deals with the implicit effect rather than a visual cue. then, if you begin to develop a crush on the visual...

    Magazine Protectors

Hmm, the poly-wallets on comics would be too small for MAGIC, D. I couldn't even wedge my copies of Dark Knight Strikes Again into them, so now they have to sit on my shelf, getting killed by dust... Grr. They should make bigger onesssss!!!!!! CL

    Cinders by Dee Christopher

Hi Matt. I responded to your post on the E forum but I'll just reiterate here, for the sake of being complete. "I have had this effect a little while now and I have performed it (I estimate) around 20-30 times. The angle 'issues' you mention aren't much of a concern for me. For...

    Magazine Protectors

I know in the UK, one can pick up flat pack boxes that, once *erected* can fit around 20 MAGIC sized magazines in. They're quite cheap. Check out the IKEA website? CL

    Best Pass

Before I knew the riffle subterfuge, I used to call it a 'toy pass' as it occurs while apparently 'toying' with the deck. The riffle is justified by the fact that you are merely casually toying with the cards as you talk or explain the premise of te effect. Like I said, it's a very effective...

    Best Pass

Classic for sure. Riffling is a good subterfuge, but thats what it is... It's not a seperate pass all of its own. I'm personally learning a top card cover pass at the minute... it's hellish! CL

    Pinch Vanish

This is a great vanish,m and one of the first things I learned, along with the venerable snap sleeve! I now use it as one part of a take-vanish (as opposed to a put). Englands penetration is mint. CL

    A few questions...

Oh, okay. I get you now buddy. To present (and get suitable reactions for) cool, hard hitting magic, I would suggest looking at the work of Greg Wilson. CL

    A few questions...

As per Daniel's performing persona... Thats him, you're you. You're worrying because you can't comfortably replicate his performance style? Thats not a problem my friend! Fanning powder- Never used it, sorry. Flourishes good for sleights? Does learning Bass Guitar make you a better...

    Cinders by Dee Christopher

Why not? It's a new effect, it's at it's peak time for a high volume of reviews. Everybody has opinions on it, so why should only one or two people vocalize it? CL

    Coin routines

I would suggest looking (hard) for Troy Hooser's beautiful book, DesTROYers for more exceptional coin magic, and some evry cool card stuff too. CL

    Definition of an Amateur?

Quite simply, an amateur is one who does not practice something as a profession. In drama, it might be one who acts in a non-profit production. In magic, it is one who does not work professionally, making a living from the art. It in no way relates to the skills of the individual. CL

    NIPslip :: Dee Christopher

While my Justin Long body may well get the girls hearts a flutterin', I doubt it would go down well with the party as a whole. Thanks for the suggestion though, it's nice people have faith in my magical ability, haha. CL

    Jason Latimer

Jason's cups & balls is just pure eye candy. Completely not my style, but it's just as wonderful finding something that makes you stop and say 'WOW, MAGIC!'. CL

    So you've vanished the deck...

Dominique Duvivier has some great work on this type of thing. MY suggestion would be to look at what you're doing now and see what other bits of business you could 'fit' into the proceedings... CAse in point- Do you hang your jacket over the back of the chair when you sit to perform? I do...

    Presentation

Who has said you have great sleight of hand skills? If it's a spectator, then you're skills aint all that... sleight of hand should be invisible, not a visible skill. For presentational advice, I would suggest reading Eugene Burger. CL
