Is it good to be a bit too "flashy"

I don't think that showing that showing you know how to handle a deck of cards is anything to avoid. I love David Copperfield and I love the way he handles cards. I remember the first time I saw him perform "Airtight". All that he does is a one handed fan to let the spectator chooses a card...

Is it good to be a bit too "flashy"

In any art there must be motivation behind every choice. A fancy cut may be as effective as a double undercut and it looks totally different. I agree with realityone's ACR analogy. I'd like to expand it a little bit, I doubt you'll agree with me completely but that's alright. Imagine a rising...

    How I Got Into Magic

I love books too! The first novel I ever read was a book called "The Magic Makers". I was in second grade, it too was in my school library. It was a magic history book. I had just seen a Lance Burton magic special and I was hooked. I read through the whole thing, it talked about Indian Fakirs...

    Derren Brown Shows

Wow this is great! The problem with Googling is there's a tendency to get the most popular stuff the most. For instance when I Google Derren Brown I get a whole bunch of repeats of his Zombie video game experiment. It takes a bit of digging to get anything new. I agree Google is a great tool...

    Favorite Magician?

Jerome Murat his performance is absolutely art. I also love Derren Brown and David Copperfield. To me these three create more of an emotional response to magic than anybody else I have seen. They all connect with an audience in a very unique way.

    Rose Magic

Don't support internet exposure! The actual folding part isn't too bad for the magic bits, the effect was created by Kevin James. It's the Kevin James floating rose. P.S. the reason I quoted you was because at a first glance it looks like you might be telling him to learn the trick on youtube...

    Magic ideas

Okay, reread the beginning post of the thread and I've got say, Draven and renome, you both have very valid points. I tend to agree with you both. When I saw this thread it made me think of jamming sessions, and brainstorming sessions that I've had with other magicians. You know we all sit down...

    Magic ideas

I don't mean to be naive by any means. I don't mean to offend any of you, Renome, resevoirred or draven but I am going to defend myself if you'll ablige. I consider myself a student of all classic magic. I am very fond of the classics and I use techniques from Vernon, Marlo and Erdnase on a...

    Magic ideas

I'm fine with throwing my thoughts out there. The sky is the limit here I might think of something and somebody else might think of a method that is twice as portable or deceptive. Look at the legends out there like Scarne's Aces, the Indian rope trick and the Hofinzer Ace problem. We have been...

    Magic ideas

I love brainstorming like this! I have always wanted to do a book test with a current telephone book. A page number is named and the mentalist begins to name the names on that page including phone numbers. I want a card through window that I can do on the third floor or higher on an office...

When you mention that their giving out an uncut sheet of cards as a prize and your wife asks if they expect you to cut them out yourself!

    Where to learn sponge balls?

How is Jay Sankey's "Ear Plugs"? It at least looks like a logical less obscure take on sponge ball magic. I love sponge balls but they don't look like much. I love to see what magicians call them though, magic dots, clown noses, amebas. I think it's all very funny. Does anybody have "Ear Plugs"?

Who here actually does xcm as a performance art?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OkIPDEKkhTc I want to see more performances like this!!!

Who here actually does xcm as a performance art?

So, does anybody do XCM as a live part of a live performance? I'd even be interested if somebody did manipulation 51% of the time during their magic. When magic was first starting out it was a side show act, it has since evolved into a performance art on it's own. Maybe there aren't any shows...

Who here actually does xcm as a performance art?

I mixed some cardistry into a couple of my magic routines. I don't consider myself incredibly skilled. I think it has potential as a performance art. I bet if Ellen Degeneres got a hold of Andre Jikh, Dan and Dave or you Michael it seems like the kind of thing she'd have on the show. I think it...

Christmas Party Close Up Card Magic Routine

I think I understood. The list was the effects you're comfortable doing right? You just wanted thoughts on how to string them together, right? What kind of Sharpie trick do you do?

Christmas Party Close Up Card Magic Routine

I don't know what you mean by "trick sharpie" but it seems like it would flow nicely if you used the same card for each trick. Start with the biddle trick. Once you reveal the card have them sign it, (do something with your sharpie?) start your ACR and finish with card to mouth.
