A double lift is all you need...

If you rely on the same control, force and dl all the time you are lazy. I have variations that work better in different scenarios, just another reason that sets me apart from other working magicians that are middle aged and been doing the same store bought stuff for years. Oh and more and more...

To Gaff or not to Gaff

That's great but there aren't many that sell bare basic refills. One of the reasons I don't buy gaffs anymore is because they don't last long and there isn't always a refill option or I have to email them to ask for an unofficial refill. We live in a world where people want the shortest possibly...

To Gaff or not to Gaff

Personally, there isn't a magic shop within 100 miles of me but if I called, say, world magic shop and asked for a "refill", they would probably say I have to buy the whole trick. After all they are a shop and they have to make a profit to survive. I just think a dedicated retailer of gaffs...
  4. formula

To Gaff or not to Gaff

Obviously the person(s) making the gaffs would have written consent to reproduce their gaffed cards and there would be some kind of royalty or commission given to the creator(s). I much prefer the idea of buying 5-10 refills of a gaff for $20 rather than buying the trick with the instructions...

    Wait! I said that but...

Of course not. No one is wrong or right because it's just our opinions about a community we don't control, nor do we have the ability to make people agree with us. I will help people out IF I am able to help and if they genuinely seem like they want to better their magic rather than know another...

To Gaff or not to Gaff

I find that gaffs I make myself don't work as well as ones shipped with the instructional dvd or booklet. I find myself in the same position as Geraint as well with overseas shipping so I don't buy gaffs very often. Someone should make a catalogue of gaffs and just ship "refills" with no...

    Wait! I said that but...

There is no "storm" brewing William. Stop taking things so seriously and relax with some eggnog.
  8. formula

To Gaff or not to Gaff

Gaffs are, for the most part, for beginners. There are certain gaffs that are exceptional and should be used by all but it's my opinion that a professional and true students of magic perform miracles without gaffs.

    Remember why you are here.

What you on about William, you love making white knight posts! Wasn't it you that made a post and no one replied so you replied to yourself asking what's the point in trying to help people when no one replies? I think you're just jealous Geraint beat you to it. Less negativity from you please sir.

For the chicks. I give my opinion and help out where I can, when I'm not inundated with all my magic groupies.

    The Lean

Last I knew the only guy who made it lives in the east. It costs thousands and Dynamo said when he got it it was a pile of crap so he had to make modifications to it before he could really use it effectively.

    On-the-Spot Coin Bender

It's not that I'm strapped for cash. I just disagree with others that QB looks better than Superman. I've given up arguing about it though.

    Super Pen

Calen does it better in Scribble (it's on the wire). I like your change but it's only for the youtube generation and there are better ways to do it like on the sleeveless sleeving dvd.

    One coin routine

Are you showing us moves or is this a performance? Your sleights aren't bad but the magic is in the patter. You need to have reasons beyond "take the coin like this, do this". Also, you should of aimed the camera a little bit higher as some of it wasn't in shot. Add a story and you'll have a...

    Card Flourishes

Good effort but keep practicing. You should of posted this in the appropriate forum. Oh, wait. You did that as well. You want to share your video, which is great and we all want to watch it but don't you didn't need to post it here. We all know topics get more views in general discussion but...

Is it good to be a bit too "flashy"

By definition "too flashy" is a bad thing. Professional magicians do tricks they can do with their eyes closed, that work every time. I like to throw in a bit of flash and style, because I know a lot of older magicians either can't do it or can only do basic flourishes and I know that gives me...

    On-the-Spot Coin Bender

Sorry, I've not been clear. When the actual bend is put in the coin with QB (not the reveal) it looks awful. It's the awkward way he moves his hands then turns the pen end for end or something quite quickly. Regardless of misdirection, I wouldn't be happy if anyone saw that. When I spoke about...

    Flashgig.

People take as much leash as you give them. As I said, I have a contract. If they don't sign the contract I don't work with them. If they do sign the contract and mess me about or take the piss I will stop performing and walk away taking full payment with me. It sounds to me like these...

    Flashgig.

I also disagree with visualartist. I've had last minute gigs before and as long as they agree to sign my contract I'm happy to do it. A professional is always prepared and ready (to some extent), that's one of the things that makes him a professional. Oh and good luck, sounds like a fun gig.

    On-the-Spot Coin Bender

Thanks for that, I wasn't aware there was a 2.0 of Superman. I wasn't talking about the presentation or miming the bend, I meant when you put the actual bend in the coin. The way it's done with QB just looks so awkward and unnatural to me.
