Stage Magic... My Thoughts About Why It's Not That Impressive...

So wait, because your dad didn't really like stage magic.. You decide that all stage magic sucks? Man you have not seen a David Copperfield show or a Lance Burton Show or even a Penn and Teller show. I have a lot of respect for stage guys because it takes a lot more and i mean A LOT more...

What makes a GOOD opening trick?

"HI, My name (insert name here.) I am the entertainment for tonight." then just go on from there.

    When Magic Go's Wrong

Yeah this is generally why I don't like the idea of Russian Roulette routines. If you screw up, you can pretty much injure yourself pretty bad. The one with the spectator being injured is even worse.. Now you face the chance of them suing you. Nice way to get a good reputation.

Drew Thomas on America's Got Talent

Eh they pretty much let anybody on that show. I've seen people on there that made me think "What the hell?"

OK, a topic that *should* be addressed on the internets

Nothing. I find carrying around a deck of cards can be rather silly unless you are doing a professional gig. Learn something like Acidus Novus or The perfected Center tear and everything you need will be at said persons house. (people have note pads and pens all over the place.)

    Mentalism and Hypnosis

The problem is that he needs to develop thick skin and the fact that he constantly tries to do Criss Angel style videos and then has continuous crotch shots. Hell the whole "Continuous Shot" thing just for a card effect was even more silly. Here's the other problem. You shouldn't try to...

    Mentalism and Hypnosis

I have one more question. What's with the over the top music and posing? Honestly, it just looks silly and kind of lame. You still need to tell the camera guy to not burn your hands. You can do a video with card magic and have him set up the camera to where it is facing straight forward and...

    Mentalism and Hypnosis

You need to tell the Camera guy to do a better job. Seriously, all he needs to do is stand back a few feet and have the camera facing them. As Steerpike said.. Why are we watching your crotch? Also why did you call it Mentalism and Hypnosis when what you did was neither of them. It was card...

Going to camp. Need some help.

Nice try, but no. I gave him the answer. A lot of Mentalism doesn't require any props besides stuff you can borrow ( a Pen and a pad of paper.)

Going to camp. Need some help.

Ignore what everybody else is saying. Do you any mentalism or anything that doesn't require a prop (besides maybe a S****). if you do, you can do a TON of stuff with that and make it look totally impromptu and impossible.

    Suspension of Disbelief

Oh there are other reasons why Twilight is an abomination. It has nothing to do with her ignoring Vampire mytho's (which would have taken her like 5 min on the internet to do the research..). It's a horrible book because the writing, structure and just pacing of the book are essentially...

    Suspension of Disbelief

It wasn't just that it was his whole "If you're not spending 100's of dollars on props, then you're a not a real magician." He said that about coin gaffs and pretty much everything else. It was like, how the hell is spending 100's of dollars on props going to make you look better? I've always...

    Suspension of Disbelief

All give you Steerpike and maybe Thrallmin. But Morgician often suffered from Bitter old man syndrome and lacked the ability to develop an open mind and see things from a different perspective. Plus his whole "LOL. Not using red bikes = Instant fail" attitude really made lose points as well.

    Suspension of Disbelief

Well you can't really prove you are a smarter than him or anybody. The best thing is simply sit back and let other do your work for you.

    Suspension of Disbelief

I think you're the one who is shooting himself in the foot. You're whole argument about Magicians or mentalist's saying they can read minds and ending up getting heckled or challenged is a bit bad. I suggest you look up guys like Rick Maue or Mark Edwards (hell Mark Edwards does things of...

    Suspension of Disbelief

I have a question for the people who think they will get heckled or challenged by saying they can read minds. Have you done anything to the contrary to prove it? Answer this question honestly and without trying to rip off Steerpikes rhetorical attitude.

    Suspension of Disbelief

I'd like to introduce you to Richard Osterlind or anybody else who has done the Think of a card routine. He's been heckled so much that he he gets hired by big companies to perform at trade shows, and other high end jobs. I mean people must heckle him so much that his career is pretty much...

    Suspension of Disbelief

In fact I suggest a few people here pick up Paul Brook's book " The Alchemical Tool." he pretty much goes over a ton of ideas on how to turn something simple into a miracle. Also it's not just me recommending it, Jeff McBride and Eugene Burger also suggest their students read it as well. So you...

    Suspension of Disbelief

I think you're the only one who's worried about the God-mage image (you need to stop watching Episodes of Mind Freak.) Who say's you'd get heckled or challenged if you do the supernatural act? A lot of Mentalist's doe the supernatural aka Psychic type deal and most of them don't get heckled...

    Suspension of Disbelief

Not really, just depends on how you do it. Take Richard Osterlinds Two in the Pocket or any of his effects where he has the BCS or Radar Deck. He doesn't get heckled for doing them. Because most of the time those are completely hands off. With the Radar Deck all you do is spread the cards and...
