    beginner card magic questions?

An advice of a master: I think the bold thing is very important. Buying more and more material is contra-productive, especially in the beginning.

    Stuart Gordon replacement

The Tamariz/Gordon Bruce unload (Giobbi credited it to both, because they came up with it independently) can also be found in Card College 3 . I don`t use the Ken Simmons/Stuart Gordon double very often, only in special situations. But it is a great double in combination with, for example...

    Magic in Mind: Free Book!

But it`s a book. Don`t expect the kids to read. It`s actually hard enough to watch a DVD ;) To be honest, it`s a bit disappointing that even a free book of that caliber doesn`t get nearly the attention a free DVD or download would have. "If you want to keep a secret, put it in print" is more...

    Memorized Deck Magic

Both. A Memorized deck itself is nothing really special or hard. Absolutely everyone can do it. You just have to learn it in a way that you can tell the identity of a card by it`s number without thinking and vice versa. The tools however, which you will need to make use of the MD, varies...

    Magic in Mind: Free Book!

I got an email from vanishing. I still cannot believe they give that away for free. Insane. Although I know some of the essays because they are part of books I own, it`s sooo great to have them alltogether and I appreciate the hard work. Again. They are insane to give that away for free. Josh...

    Creative Magic Inventors

Although Sankey has an unrivaled output (the only living magician that beats him in that regard is Max Maven AFAIK), I think most of the stuff he publishes today is utter crap. He beats the **** out of every single idea that comes to his mind, regardless of whether it`s good or not. IMO Kevin...

    Books

My actual favorites are Darwin Ortiz "Lessons in Card Mastery" and Woody Aragon`s "A book in English". Both contain more material that I like than any other card magic book I own. Woodys book isn`t very demanding on sleight of hand, although there is some soh, if you`re more into that, but the...

    Routines with Memory?

I like http://www.vanishingincmagic.com/magic-downloads/card-magic-downloads/more-memory-man/ and Pit Hartling`s Unforgettable (can be found in his book "Card Fictions") http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=knP3VkeBQIY Both have memory as theme, are not the real thing, but are very convincing IMO.

    Relearning mechanic's grip?

What`s wrong with the Fisher video ? It is not easy to relearn something you`ve done in a different way for a long time. It`s harder to get rid of old habbits than learning it from scratch. It takes time and discipline. A good resource for grips and variations is Card College Vol.1.

    If You Could Meet...

Only one ? Johann Nepomuk Hofzinser. Because he is one of my greatest inspirations and I could talk to him in my mother tongue ;) The other three departed magicians I want to meet are Cardini, because I`ve never seen a better manipulator than him. Fred Kaps, because he is one of the best...

    Strong as an oak

I always thought Flourishing was different from manipulation. Manipulation is something like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVe7chIgn0w while flourishing is more like showing skill and card juggling without the magic, meaning and structure! of an "old school" manipulation act. I could be...

The most important peices of magic knowled. Agree?

Even if you`re doing magic for XX+ years, this will probably not change (much) ;) Tamariz, one of the most knowledgable magicians alive (he`s doing magic for 60 years now and has forgotten more about magic than people like me will ever learn), once said that he still is an apprentice of the...

Thoughts on the Strike Second Deal

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=W6J-dJYbaaE#t=570s Martin Nash doing the Strike with an ultra small brief and Dead Thumb. Starts at 9:30. Looks deceptive to me. Even with the top card face up and in slowmo.

Thoughts on the Strike Second Deal

I don`t know, but I`ve read that the reason famous cheats, such as Sir Walter Scott (AFAIK he invented ?! this second), used a second with an invisible small brief is that in fomer times ?! the moving of the thumb (what some people today criticize as not being natural. But I think the...

    Full deck stacks

Not really. You can memorize any deck order and it is as easy or hard to learn as any other. Neither Aronson nor Tamariz-stack is easier to learn than a deck in random order. For a memorized deck (Aronson, Tamariz, etc.) it is important that it withstands proper examination (in terms of...

The most important peices of magic knowled. Agree?

"The magic happens in the mind of the spectator." That`s the single most important aspect of any magic in my opinion. Everything else are just tools to make this happen ;)
