New Blog Post :: The Blue Crown

I purchased his 'Brick Pass'-download. Pretty good stuff. The money back guarantee is something new to me. I sincerely hope nobody abuses this.

The Best Card Effect - Low Budget

Have you read my post? 1. It`s just my opinion and the way I would do it when I had to start over again. 2. I clearly said IN COMPANION to the books. As I´m really convinced (my own experience in the beginning) that visual material is more helpful IN THE BEGINNING (not later on!). You´re...

Magic, and how it relates to...

Let`s be honest. 99% want to be called artists to make their 'passion' more valuable, to be something special. Ask yourself, does it really make a difference whether our passion is categorized as an artform or not ?

The Best Card Effect - Low Budget

Each to its own, but I personally don´t think that a book alone is the best way to start if you´re an absolute beginner. As a beginner you don´t know how it should look like. It`s better to see it. A DVD in combination with a companion book is the best way to start IMO. If I have to start...

Help with Choosing a Good Control to Learn

Michael`s DVD set 'The Classic Magic of Michael Vincent' is a goldmine. I always find something new to learn. Not the easiest stuff around (the one-handed bottom deal is really really hard for me, although he explains it in detail), but definitely something to grow with. Maybe the best DVD set I...

Expert at the Card Table Intro

AFAIK nobody really knows his true identity or can prove that 100%. Gardner thinks it was Milton Andrews, David Alexander thinks it was Wilbur Edgerton Sanders, Juan Tamariz and Gaetan Bloom have established the theory that it was the Peruvian magician named 'L'Homme Masque'.

The Best Card Effect - Low Budget

AFAIK a color change is an effect. It`s a transformation. Effects in Magic are productions, vanishes, transpositions, transformations, escapes, teleportations, penetrations, predicitons etc. An effect can be, and most often is, the climax and essence of a trick or a routine (which uses more...

    USPCC Targeting Magicians?

I have to agree. The only thing they care about is the number of sales. Magicians are a negligible group of buyers. And I don´t agree that the quality is getting better. In my opinion, the new decks are worse than the old ones (and price increased!), and I still have an old brick of Ohio bikes...

Help with Choosing a Good Control to Learn

The crimp is a much underrated control, although some of the most spectacular effects I´ve ever seen utilize the crimp.

    Using the "wrong" hand

Funny you mentioned this. 'Sanverted' (from his book 'Carneycopia') actually works better for lefties ;) It´s an index issue. I can´t think of anything else that would favour either of them.

Help with Choosing a Good Control to Learn

I second that. There´s no best control. It totally depends on the situation you´re using it in. I would always choose a control by a trick I do. I never use one control for everything. Which tricks do you perform regulary ? What are the most appropriate controls in the context of your tricks ...

Which emails work for The Magic Cafe?

That´s the ambiguity. The content is gold, the design (and I´m not talking about the look) is well below average. It´s even worse. It´s a pity that the best search engine for the cafe is NOT their search function, but google. It has far more sub-forums than needed and they still adding more and...

On the use of custom cards...

Well that´s the main issue with some custom cards (all black cards, ghost deck, sentinels etc.). Above all, design should be ergonomic (Ghost deck sucks because spectator are confused by the lack of colour which makes them much harder to remember, the pips on the Sentinels are too small)...

what do you think about "fake" jerry's nugget?

JN are the ugliest cards ever created in the entire history of playing cards. I could never understand why someone wants to use these, but I can understand selling them for ridiculous prices (as many magicians do). But, cmon, using FAKES of these ugly, ugly, ugly (did I mention UGLY?)...
