    Help on Mentalism

Matt Mello has some neat releases. I never really dug deep into mentalism and decided it wasn't my cup of tea; however, I've really enjoyed some of Matt Mello's material. I'm sure some his material is based old techniques in the classic books, but his new additions and ideas I really like. Very...

    What's up with this?

You would have to change most of the tricks you do, presentation, and diction. Also, some performers wouldn't have the personality to perform for kids. This kind of goes with what has been stated by others. Young kids haven't had the same experiences as adults. So, presentation would need to be...

Best Way to Get a Break under Two Cards

My get ready is similar to a riffle on the back with my thumb. I just simply lift 2 cards with the thumb. I guess it's also similar to a strike double where you just feel for 2 cards rather than riffling. Whenever I lift, I just can tell based off of the thickness if I lifted 2 cards or not...

    Cards: Borderless and Bordered

Bordered cards for card magic and Borderless cards for gambling demonstrations or tricks with gambling moves. If performing card magic with bordered cards, you have a little room for error on a double lift. With borderless cards, if you have a double on top of the deck and the cards separate...

    Card to mouth variations

This just reminded of an old performance I saw right about the time I got into magic. This was the first time I saw a card to mouth variation. Here's the clip: The actual trick doesn't start until about 3:40, but I recommend watching the entire 7 minutes if you have the time.

    Card tricks requiring memorization/calculation skills?

The faro shuffle is a mathematical application to card tricks. I know there is a chapter in Ed Marlo's "Revolutionary Card Technique" that explains the faro shuffle. With the faro shuffle, you can either start with a set up deck (which makes it a little bit easier) or, depending on the trick...

    Don't Underestimate the Invisible Deck

I always say old tricks/methods don't necessarily mean they are bad tricks/methods.

    New to magic. Please help

Card College will definitely give you a solid foundation. If you put the effort into studying these books, you will have great technique fairly early on. Also, the series teaches a lot tricks. Not only will you have a list of tricks you can perform, but you will begin to learn how different...

    Michael O'Brien Interview

What opportunities have you had because of magic that you may not have had otherwise? What effects/tricks do you like, but don't perform? Of these tricks, do you want to perform them at some point?

Saturday Night Contest - Create A Flourish!

As you can probably tell, I am not a flourisher/cardist whatsoever, but thought I would challenge myself. (I can't even do the sybil cut). Thought I would do this for fun just to see if I could do it.

    The Advocate Reset

You could discard the previously named card into your other pocket. If that card is named again, it's easily accessible. The only issue is you would be using your opposite hand. By doing this, it gives you an extra performance or two before resetting.

Saturday Night Roundtable - Blake Vogt

    1. Is there a book is there any book, dvd, magician you refer to for inspiration for creating effects or presentational ideas? 2. What is your greatest accidental magic moment?- For example, a moment where something went wrong, but ended up being a magic moment for the audience. 3. If a coin...

    Odyssey ring size

I purchased Odyssey and my ring size is a 9.5. I rounded it up to a size 10 and the ring seems to work fine. The ring fits perfect. After playing around with the ring some, even if it is slightly on the small side, it should still work fine. I would recommend the size 10

    A different way of learning.

I would also like to recommend Jay Sankey. He has some free effects as well as effects you can buy. He has a lot of material that uses everyday objects. You may want to start with what reality one recommended though. Jay Sankey is a great guy to learn from. A lot of experience in magic.

    Best Vegas Magic Shows?

I went to a few magic shows in Vegas a few years ago: David Copperfield, P and T, Criss Angel, Mac King. They were all great, but if I had to pick just one, I would lean towards Mac King's show. Not taking anything away from the others, but something about Mac King I really liked. They were all...
