Exactly. Giving them an actual reason to watch and not pass it of as something that is just "cool". Like I said, and what the last audience member did as well,"give them what they need".
I am so tired of that "they just want to be entertained" mindset. I have seen magicians perform solely with that mindset and later I ask audience members what they thought and In the mix I get "yeah..it was cool" "It was ok"..and then one day, holy cow,I get a guy that tells me "It gave me very...
Great advice.
Id recommend getting in acting courses if he were just to be a magician too.
I see most magicians these days using the "be yourself" idea as an excuse of not wanting to act in their performances.
I think the best thing that you can do,is to stop thinking your acting.
Fully commit yourself to the character and see yourself as your actually doing it.
All the great actors of our times speak of this. Like you say"dont pretend to be a magician.Be one"
I actually did recommend Fundementals. He only needs to know about that book for now.
I talked about sean fields and papercrane because he wanted a variety of effects not just mentalism. Which is why he mentioned rubber bands and coin "stuff".
The thing about that robert houdin quote is used alot by people who dont even know what it means,or dont actually practice what it preaches.
Still, that quote,i dont think, doesnt have much relevance to this dicussion.
These questions have already been answered. Yes there is a gimmick and its a DVD that comes with it. Itd be too much hassle to download video and have the gimmick sent out.
One does not have to almost completely master one genre to do another.
If you want to do real mentalism and well..get Fundamentals by bob cassidy(?)
13 steps is just tricks and doesnt teach you HOW to perform mentalism
However,I do agree with RD on practicing a few things at a time. You...
Those are routines.Thats what they are made for. What im saying is they dont count. Each phase is different. Im talking about straight up doing the SAME effect.
But a coin routine isnt really repeating the effect. Its supposed to be layered.
I have yet to encounter an effect that has the same power on a spectator the second time performed.
Obviously it depends on the trick and performance. If its a coin routine, obviously its going to be repeated. Thats what a coin routine is.
But performing a pulse stop or floating something isnt going to make it stronger the second time around.
I have quite a few personal effects in the making and some completed.
Heres a few..
LIFE-The performer takes soil into his hands and places a seed into it. Conentrating,A small plant/flower rises out of the soil.
FASTFOOD-The performer exclaims how hungry he is and cups his hands over a...
