Lol its crazy that you wrote that. Yesterday I did this effect but with a bag of Hot tamales(the little red candy things) My friends had them in a plastic bag and sharing them in class and the idea popped in my head when they gave me some. After I showed them they flipped.lol

In my mind,using a second set is considered using doubles. Gaffs to me is something that is first "normal" and then altered in some way.The best example is a gaff deck.Normal cards changed by appearance. A gimmick is a device or a specific tool created to aid in an effect.
